Vijay Varma is one of the most consistently compelling actors of his generation — known for Darlings, Mirzapur, Dahaad, and Gustaakh Ishq. For this role, Varma reportedly underwent extensive preparation including dialect training, historical research, and physical transformation to authentically embody a man navigating ambition, morality, and the shadow economy of post-independence India.

Nagraj Popatrao Manjule is the director behind the Marathi cinematic masterpieces Fandry (2013) and Sairat (2016) — two films that shook Indian cinema with their raw portrayal of caste and social inequality. Matka King marks his first directorial venture since Jhund (2022) featuring Amitabh Bachchan, and represents his first full-scale period drama on OTT.
