The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced a revolutionary feature allowing citizens to update their Aadhaar-linked mobile numbers directly from home using OTP and face authentication. This eliminates the need to visit Aadhaar centres or stand in queues, marking a significant shift toward paperless identity management.

Key Requirements and Features

You must have access to your old registered mobile number, as OTP verification will be sent to the previously linked number during the authentication process. The new Aadhaar app, launched November 9, 2025, supports up to five Aadhaar profiles on one device, enabling families to manage multiple accounts efficiently.

Face authentication ensures only the actual Aadhaar holder can change the number, significantly enhancing security compared to manual verification at centres. The feature is currently rolling out to early adopters for testing, with full public availability expected soon.

This digital-first approach particularly benefits senior citizens, people with disabilities, and residents in remote areas where Aadhaar centres are limited or inaccessible.
