UIDAI Just Made Updating Your Aadhaar Email Way Easier — Here’s What You Need to Know

Standing in line at an Aadhaar centre just to update an email address? Not anymore. UIDAI has rolled out a new feature letting residents update their email ID directly from the Aadhaar App, and it’s completely free for a limited time.

What’s Changed in UIDAI?

Starting July 1, 2026, Indian residents can add or update their email ID on their Aadhaar record without visiting a physical enrolment centre. The Ministry of Electronics & IT confirmed this is a free service, available exclusively through the Aadhaar App, running for a period of six months.

Key Details

Why It’s Catching On Fast

The response has been immediate — more than 2.5 lakh people updated their email addresses within just two days of the feature going live. It’s easy to see why: linking an email to Aadhaar means users now get real-time notifications whenever an Aadhaar authentication request happens on their account, adding an extra layer of security awareness.

More Than Just Email

This update is part of a broader push to make the Aadhaar App a genuine one-stop tool for identity management. Beyond email updates, the app already supports mobile number and address changes, cutting down the need for in-person visits significantly. It reflects a wider governmental shift toward strengthening Aadhaar as a fully digital, self-service identity platform for over a billion residents.

How to Use It

Simply download or update the Aadhaar App on your smartphone, and you’ll find the email update option built right in. UIDAI is actively encouraging residents to take advantage of the free window before it potentially reverts to a paid or in-person process.
