The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to revolutionize Aadhaar management with a new e-Aadhaar app, launching by December 2025 for both Android and iOS users.
Table of Contents
What Makes e-Aadhaar App Different?
Unlike the existing mAadhaar app which only allows users to store Aadhaar information, the new e-Aadhaar app will enable direct updates to Aadhaar details without visiting enrollment centers. This marks a major shift toward complete digital self-service for India’s billion-plus Aadhaar holders.
| Feature | mAadhaar (Current) | e-Aadhaar (New) |
|---|---|---|
| Launch Date | Already Available | December 2025 |
| Updates Allowed | Limited | Name, DOB, Address |
| Security | Basic | AI + Face ID |
| Platform | Android & iOS | Android & iOS |
| Document Upload | Not supported | Integrated verification |
AI-Powered Security Features
The e-Aadhaar app will be equipped with artificial intelligence and facial recognition technology to significantly reduce identity fraud and make the update process highly secure. Users can authenticate through Face ID, eliminating the need for multiple passwords or OTPs.
Key Capabilities:
- Update name, address, date of birth instantly
- Change mobile number and contact details
- Upload supporting documents digitally
- Track update status in real-time
- Generate QR codes for verification
How Updates Will Work
The app will connect directly with verified government databases, allowing automatic verification of documents such as passports, driving licenses, and birth certificates. Simply authenticate via OTP, upload valid documents, and receive verification updates within 3-5 days.
Updated Fee Structure (October 2025)
UIDAI increased charges for updating Aadhaar details from October 1, 2025, with demographic updates (name, address, DOB) costing Rs 75, and Aadhaar reprints priced at Rs 40. These rates remain valid until September 2028.
The e-Aadhaar app is expected to roll out by late 2025, maybe somewhere in November, and will be available for download on both Android and iOS platforms, offering equal access to urban and rural users.
