Toaster on Netflix: Rajkummar Rao’s Funniest Role Yet Is a Dark Comedy About a Wedding Gift Gone Wrong

Imagine chasing a toaster across India. That’s literally the plot of Netflix India’s newest dark comedy — and honestly? We’re here for it.

Toaster is the latest Netflix Original Hindi film, and it’s already one of the most anticipated Indian releases of 2026. Produced by Rajkummar Rao and his wife Patralekhaa under their newly launched production house Kampa Film, this one feels personal — and refreshingly unhinged.

Toaster: Everything About Toaster at a Glance

What’s the Toaster Story?

Ramakant is a lovable yet obsessive kanjoos (miser) who gifted a toaster at a wedding — only to discover it’s going to waste. He cannot let that happen. So he sets off to retrieve it, dragging everyone around him into a hilariously spiraling disaster where every fix makes things ten times worse.

Think Ludo meets everyday Indian household logic. It’s chaotic, relatable, and laugh-out-loud funny.

Toaster Star-Studded Cast

Rajkummar Rao leads the film as Ramakant, supported by Sanya Malhotra as his long-suffering wife Shilpa. The two previously shared screen space in Ludo, so the chemistry is already proven.

The ensemble also includes Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Farah Khan, Seema Pahwa, and Jitendra Joshi — a murderer’s row of brilliant character actors.

Why This Film Matters

This is the directorial debut of Vivek Daschaudhary, who previously worked as second unit director on Guns & Gulaabs. The screenplay comes from a talented trio: Parveez Shaikh (Darlings), Akshat Ghildial (Badhaai Do), and Anagh Mukerjee (Pill).

Dark comedy as a genre thrives on the absurdity of everyday life — something well-documented in Indian cinema’s storytelling tradition. Toaster looks to carry that torch brilliantly.
