The Ordinary Jackpot Ending Explained: Gong Eun Tae Won the Lottery, But the Real Jackpot

Most “won the lottery” stories end with a yacht and a villa. This one ends at the office, and somehow that is exactly why it works.

Gong Eun Tae, played by Lee Jun Hyuk, spends the series learning that sudden luck can feel like a blessing one day and a burden the next. By the finale, the story has made its point: the money opened a door, but what he did after walking through it changed his life.

Here are the four moments that made the ending feel earned.

The Ordinary Jackpot: The Finale

1. Honsung Wins Against CGM

If the show has a signature move, it is this: everything looks like it is falling apart for Eun Tae and his team, then it turns out he had it planned all along. It happens again and again, and it works every time.

The finale cashes in that tension. Eun Tae’s plan against CGM succeeds, and Honsung gets the upper hand in the market again. That lets the company set its own terms instead of reacting to everyone else’s.

Yang Joon Ho (Seo Hyun Woo) sums up the theme earlier: this industry can flip overnight, and whoever is on top today may be at the bottom tomorrow. Eun Tae’s takeaway is just as practical. Working hard is good, but working smarter is better.

2. A Peaceful Goodbye With Jung Sun Hyuk

When his attempt to bring down Honsung backfires, Jung Sun Hyuk (Oh Dae Hwan) has to accept defeat. What surprises many viewers is how gentle his exit is.

The drama never treats him as a cartoon villain. His moves were mostly about business, not personal revenge. He may have come across as cynical, or even hypocritical, but he stays consistent to the end, which makes him feel like a realist rather than a monster.

Eun Tae is no saint either, and both men seem to recognise that about each other. They do not go back to being friends or colleagues, but they part ways without resentment. It is a rare ending for an office rival, and a refreshing one.

3. Sales Team 5 Finally Gets Its Reward

After a long run of fighting fires, Sales Team 5 gets its recognition. Eun Tae is promoted to deputy director. Joon Ho earns a team leader role once the sales division is restructured. Given how far their working relationship has come, it feels like a promotion for the team as much as for the individuals.

There is a twist, though. Eun Tae meets the CEO and asks for Lee Ji Hye (Ha Yul Ri) to be made a permanent employee. Instead, she is let go on the spot.

Eun Tae does not give up. He has a backup plan and arranges for her to work in Italy for their new commercial partner. It is an unexpected turn, but a believable one, because good intentions do not always get the outcome you hoped for, and sometimes the detour is the better path.

4. Eun Tae Reflects on His Future

The final beat belongs to Eun Tae. Before the lottery, his life felt dull and suffocating. Afterwards, things changed, but the drama makes clear it was not the money alone. His own choices sparked the movement inside Honsung, and his team helped carry it.

When he looks ahead, the future feels brighter because he can finally see the worth of the people around him, and of himself. His workplace is the same, but his outlook, his prospects and his team are better. That, the show suggests, is what an “ordinary jackpot” really means.

What the Ending Says About the Show?

If you want the quick version of the finale’s message:

• Luck starts the story, effort finishes it. The lottery is the spark, not the whole fire.
• Rivals can be human. Jung Sun Hyuk’s exit gives him dignity without excusing him.
• Good intentions can backfire. Ji Hye’s sudden firing, and Eun Tae’s quick fix, show that clearly.
• Teamwork wins. Eun Tae’s success is never a solo act.

It is a calm, grounded landing, and part of what keeps office dramas feeling so relatable within the wider world of Korean dramas. Looking for your next binge? Check our latest entertainment news and what to watch this week.
