Five Weeks In and Still Moonwalking — The Michael Biopic Is Quietly Becoming India’s Hollywood Story of 2026

Most Hollywood biopics fade after the opening weekend buzz dies down. Michael, the Jaafar Jackson-led tribute to the King of Pop, is doing something different — it’s holding. Five weeks in, and India can’t quite let it go.

Michael Week 5 Box Office — Still Going Strong

The film collected an estimated Rs 4.25 crore in its fifth week at the Indian box office, registering a 43–45 per cent drop from the previous week — a hold that trade analysts consider good. The musical biopic’s running cumulative total now stands at Rs 76.50 crore gross in India.

That kind of week-on-week retention is the mark of a film people are actively recommending — not just one that opened big.

What’s Next for the Film?

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film is expected to surpass the Rs 80 crore mark soon, before heading towards its final target. Its hold in the coming weeks will determine whether it can overtake Project Hail Mary‘s final India cume — currently, Michael sits as the second biggest Hollywood grosser in India this year.

The movie has performed best in South Indian states and Mumbai, where Michael Jackson was most popular, reflecting how deeply his legacy resonates in those markets.
