The coaching career of Dick Advocaat

Dick Advocaat is one of the most experienced and widely travelled football coaches in modern history. And now the 1xBet online platform is the best place when it comes to wagering on football teams with Dutch coaches.

Nicknamed “The Little General” because of 2 things: his disciplined approach and his connection with legendary Dutch coach Rinus Michels, Advocaat has enjoyed a managerial career spanning more than four decades. He has worked with clubs and national teams across 3 parts of the world:

• Europe;
• Asia;
• and Middle East.

This earned him a reputation for 2 things: tactical organization and strong leadership. With the online platform 1xBet it is also possible to bet on football squads from all over the world too.

Advocaat began coaching in the early 1980s while still playing professionally. After managing amateur side DSVP, he became assistant coach of the Netherlands under Rinus Michels before taking charge of HFC Haarlem in 1987. He later managed SVV and Dordrecht, establishing himself as one of the Netherlands’ most promising young coaches.

Having success in lots of teams

His first major breakthrough came with the Dutch national team, which he guided to the quarter-finals of the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Soon afterwards, he took over PSV Eindhoven, where he won the Eredivisie title twice and added a KNVB Cup to his collection. His domestic success earned him a move to Rangers in Scotland, where he captured league championships, domestic cups, and a domestic treble during his first season.

Advocaat continued to build an impressive international résumé. He returned for a second spell with the Netherlands, leading the team to the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2004. He also coached Borussia Mönchengladbach, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Belgium, Serbia, Iraq, and Curaçao.

Even after announcing his retirement several times, Advocaat repeatedly returned to management, taking charge of different clubs. 6 examples of them were Sunderland, Fenerbahçe, Sparta Rotterdam, Utrecht, Feyenoord, and ADO Den Haag.

In fact, he was also the coach who took Curaçao to their historic first ever FIFA World Cup participation in 2026. While they were eliminated in the group stage, they still got 1 point after a surprising 0-0 draw with Ecuador.

Advocaat’s longevity reflects his enduring passion for football and his ability to adapt to changing generations of players. Throughout his remarkable coaching journey, he has established himself as one of the most respected and accomplished Dutch managers of his era, leaving a lasting impact on every team he has led.
