The Ancient Curse Still Works: Lee Cronin’s The Mummy Wraps Up ₹17 Crore in Its First Week in India

Hollywood horror doesn’t always find its footing in India — but Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is proving to be a pleasant exception. The film has quietly mummified the competition with a steady, impressive theatrical run, collecting ₹17 crore gross at the Indian box office in its first seven days

The film dropped just 15% on Day 7 from the previous day — a healthy hold that signals strong audience word-of-mouth. A big second-weekend spike is now on the cards, potentially pushing its total well past ₹30 crore in India — a remarkable number for a standalone horror film.

Why Indian Audiences Are Showing Up?

There’s something deeply nostalgic at play here. The Mummy film franchise has a loyal fanbase in India — the 1999 original grossed around ₹20 crore, the 2001 sequel ₹27 crore, and the 2008 threequel a whopping ₹48 crore (adjusted to ₹200 crore+ today). While Cronin’s version is not a direct continuation, the familiar title clearly helped drive footfalls.

The horror genre has also been gaining momentum in India — something we’ve been tracking closely. For more on this trend, check out our coverage of top Hollywood horror films performing in India on TechnoSports.

What Lies Ahead?

The film’s path to a Clean Hit verdict seems sealed. The bigger question is whether it can cross ₹30 crore before competition from the Michael Jackson biopic Michael takes over screens this weekend.
