Thama and Param Sundari Spearhead Prime Video India’s Blockbuster Multi-Year Partnership with Maddock Films

Prime Video India has secured a game-changing multi-year post-theatrical licensing deal with Maddock Films, positioning Thama as the crown jewel of this strategic partnership. The exclusive worldwide streaming agreement encompasses eight highly anticipated titles from Maddock’s popular horror-comedy universe, with Param Sundari also playing a pivotal role in this content powerhouse collaboration.

Thama: The Horror-Comedy Universe’s First Love Story

Thama, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, represents a groundbreaking addition to Maddock’s acclaimed horror-comedy universe. The film, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, has been officially confirmed as the first love story in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe, with the tagline “Never was fear this powerful, and never was love this bloody!”

Thama Production and Cast Details

The recently released teaser shows Ayushmann’s character asking Rashmika, “Will you be able to live without me for 100 years?” to which she replies, “Not even for a moment,” setting the stage for what promises to be a vampire-themed love story with supernatural elements.

The film has generated significant buzz since its teaser release on August 19, 2025, featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in his fierce avatar as “Yakshasan – Andhere ka Badshah” (King of Darkness), promising a villainous yet captivating role.

Param Sundari: Cross-Cultural Romance Takes Center Stage

Param Sundari, the second major title in this Prime Video deal, showcases Maddock Films’ versatility beyond horror-comedy. Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, this romantic comedy is set for release on August 29, 2025, after being postponed from its original July 25 date.

Param Sundari Film Overview

The film centers on a love story between a North Indian protagonist (Malhotra) and a South Indian character (Kapoor), filmed against the breathtaking backwaters of Kerala, promising “a heartfelt tale of love, where two worlds collide, and sparks are bound to fly.”

The Strategic Partnership: Eight-Film Global Deal

The agreement makes Prime Video the global streaming home for films from Maddock’s popular horror-comedy universe set to premiere theatrically between 2025 and 2027, with content available to Prime members across more than 240 countries and territories shortly after their theatrical releases.

Complete Deal Portfolio

The multi-year agreement extends beyond Thama and Param Sundari to include:

Building on Previous Success

The deal builds on the success of “Stree 2,” the latest installment in Maddock’s horror-comedy franchise, which became one of Prime Video’s biggest global streaming hits and helped expand the film’s fanbase beyond its theatrical run.

The collaboration extends Maddock Films’ longstanding partnership with Prime Video, which has previously brought successful titles including “Stree 2,” “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,” and “Stree” to the platform, along with co-production “Bhool Chuk Maaf” and original series “Jee Karda.”

Industry Impact and Vision

Dinesh Vijan, CEO and founder of Maddock Films, emphasized the partnership’s significance: “Prime Video has consistently championed cinema that transcends languages, geographies, and formats. From our horror-comedy universe to our most beloved franchises, our endeavor has always been to create worlds that audiences love to revisit.”

Manish Menghani, director and head of content licensing for Prime Video India, added: “This multi-film slate not only builds on the unique and wildly popular horror-comedy universe and franchise sequels but also brings in a distinctive blend of creative originality and fresh storytelling that is synonymous with Maddock.”

Current Production Updates

Thama production has been particularly noteworthy, with principal photography beginning in December 2024 and wrapping by mid-2025, with filming locations including Delhi, Mumbai’s Film City, and the forests of Ooty in the Nilgiri hills. The film faced minor delays when Rashmika Mandanna injured her leg, but production resumed smoothly.

Param Sundari, meanwhile, has generated its own buzz with successful music releases and strong audience response to its promotional content, though it has also faced some controversy over a romantic scene filmed in a church setting.

Global Streaming Strategy

The Prime Video deal represents a significant shift toward consistent, annual content delivery that mirrors traditional television scheduling. This approach contrasts sharply with the typical streaming model of extended gaps between releases, offering audiences regular access to fresh Maddock Films content.

Founded in 2005, Maddock Films has built a reputation for hits including “Love Aaj Kal,” “Cocktail,” “Badlapur,” “Hindi Medium,” “Stree,” “Luka Chuppi,” “Bala,” “Mimi” and “Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga.” The studio recently delivered two of the highest-grossing Hindi-language films of all time with “Stree 2” and “Chhaava.”

This landmark deal positions both Thama and Param Sundari as flagship titles that will define the future of Indian cinema’s global reach, ensuring that audiences worldwide can experience Maddock Films’ unique storytelling approach across multiple genres and formats.
