TCL C6K 65-Inch Mini-LED TV Review: A Fantastic Upgrade From Traditional LED

After spending real time with the TCL C6K 65-inch Mini-LED TV, I can say it has been a great purchase. I bought it mainly for movies and general content, and I have been pleasantly surprised by how well it handles gaming too. The reason I picked it was Mini-LED, and the difference over a conventional LED TV is easy to see. It is not perfect, and it does not replace an OLED, but for the money it offers an excellent balance of brightness, contrast, HDR, gaming features and everyday usability.

Picture Quality: The Mini-LED Difference Is Real

The first thing I noticed after moving to the C6K was how much more impactful the picture looked than on a traditional LED TV. The set gets very bright, which matters for HDR movies, high-quality YouTube, sports and games, because bright highlights finally have the punch HDR promises.

The Mini-LED backlight also gives much finer control over different zones of the screen. Dark scenes look considerably better, highlights stand out and the image has more depth. If you are thinking about leaving a basic LED TV behind, this is the biggest reason to do it.

That said, I would not call it OLED-level. OLED still leads in perfect blacks, pixel-level contrast, shadow detail, colour richness, viewing angles and precise control of every pixel. But that is not the point of this TV. Compared with a regular LED, the C6K feels like a generational jump, and going back to a basic panel after Mini-LED feels like a downgrade.

Movies and Streaming: One of Its Strongest Areas

A big 65-inch screen, high brightness, Mini-LED local dimming and HDR support make films far more immersive. Dark scenes have more depth than you normally get from an affordable LED TV, and bright scenes can look spectacular. Highlights such as lights, explosions, sunlight and reflections really stand out. If you watch a lot of Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube or Disney+, this is a very enjoyable TV.

Gaming: Surprisingly Good

Gaming was another pleasant surprise. The large screen, high refresh rate, VRR support and good brightness make games look excellent, and fast action feels smooth, especially with a PS5, Xbox or gaming PC that can use the higher refresh rates. The low-latency features make the TV feel more responsive than I expected from a 65-inch set. For console players, a large Mini-LED display without paying OLED money is very attractive, and the C6K never feels like it was built only for movies.

Performance and Google TV

The TV feels fast. The interface is responsive, apps open quickly and menus do not feel sluggish. In everyday use, I found it noticeably quicker than some Samsung and LG TVs around this price. Google TV is one of my favourite parts: it is clean, subtle and easy to navigate, with access to the wider Google TV and Android TV ecosystem of apps and services.

TCL’s image processing has also improved. Upscaling will not turn lower-quality content into native 4K, but ordinary HD and streaming video look respectable on a 65-inch panel, and motion handling is good. As with any TV, you will want to tweak settings depending on what you watch, and I prefer keeping artificial processing restrained.

Colours and Brightness

This is where I want to be most honest. The C6K produces very good colours, but OLED still looks richer and more refined to my eyes, especially in very dark scenes or in a side-by-side comparison. Once you factor in the price difference and the fact that the C6K gets significantly brighter, the trade-off makes sense. For everyday viewing, I am happy with its colour performance.

Brightness is where Mini-LED truly makes sense. HDR looks impactful, and the screen does not look dim in a bright room, a real advantage if your room gets plenty of daylight. OLED has improved a lot in brightness, but Mini-LED still has a strong case when HDR impact and daytime viewing matter most.

Is 65 Inches Too Big?

I worried about that at first, and it did not turn out to be a problem. With enough viewing distance, 65 inches is excellent for movies and gaming, and 4K content becomes more enjoyable because you can actually appreciate the extra detail. For cinematic content, I would take a good 65-inch Mini-LED over a smaller TV for the immersion alone.

Value for Money

Here the C6K gets interesting. Many Samsung and LG TVs sit at similar prices, but you have to look closely at the panel technology. Often you are comparing a premium-brand traditional LED or QLED-type TV with a Mini-LED set from TCL, and that is where TCL looks very competitive.

Samsung and LG may have advantages in processing, ecosystem, software polish, colour tuning or their premium OLED models, but at this price TCL gives you a lot of hardware.

What I Don’t Like

OLED still looks better. If absolute picture quality is your only priority and you can spend much more, a good OLED is superior.

Colours are less rich. They are excellent, but they do not have that OLED look.

Viewing angles are not a strength. Like many VA-based LCD TVs, the picture changes when you watch far off to the side.

Some blooming remains. Mini-LED greatly improves local dimming, but bright objects on a dark background can still show haloing. I notice it far less in normal viewing than I expected.

Verdict: Highly Recommended

I am very happy with the TCL C6K. It does not try to be an OLED. Instead, it offers very high brightness, Mini-LED contrast, a large screen, strong gaming performance, fast software and excellent value. For movies and streaming it is extremely enjoyable, for gaming it is surprisingly capable, and for daily viewing the bright panel works well even in a well-lit room.

Does it beat a good OLED? No. OLED still wins on black levels, colour richness and cinematic refinement. Would I pick it over a similarly priced conventional LED TV? Absolutely. For a 65-inch TV in this segment, the C6K hits a sweet spot, giving you modern display technology without jumping to OLED pricing. Overall score: 4.7 out of 5.
