A Historic Win at the Kensington Oval

In a nail biting finale at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Team India emerged victorious over South Africa, clinching the T20 World Cup 2024 title with a narrow seven-run win. This victory is particularly sweet for the Men in Blue, marking their first T20 World Cup title since 2007 and breaking an 11 year drought for an ICC title since their Champions Trophy win in 2013. Under the astute leadership of Rohit Sharma, the team demonstrated unmatched skill and tenacity, becoming the first team in T20 World Cup history to win the tournament unbeaten.

In a move that has left the cricketing fraternity in awe, Jay Shah took to social media and followed up with a media release, announcing an incredible Rs 125 crore reward for the entire team, including players, coaching staff, and support staff. This colossal sum eclipses the official prize money of approximately Rs 20.42 crore awarded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) by over 600%. Shah expressed his immense pride and joy in the team’s achievement, emphasizing the extraordinary journey and resilience of the players.

“Under the exceptional leadership of Rohit Sharma, this team has shown remarkable resolve and resilience,” Shah stated. “They have faced and silenced their critics with stellar performances time and again. Their journey has been nothing short of inspirational, and today, they join the ranks of the greats, achieving something truly special that brings immense pride and joy to all Indians.”

A Tribute to the Legends

This momentous occasion also saw the end of an era as senior stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the T20I format, leaving behind a legacy as the top two highest run-scorers in T20 cricket. Their remarkable careers have set benchmarks in the game, and their contributions in the World Cup have been nothing short of phenomenal. Additionally, head coach Rahul Dravid, who has steered the team with his calm and composed demeanor, concluded his tenure on a high note, having secured his first major ICC tournament win with the national team.
