IND vs SA – T20 World Cup 2024 Final : The Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, witnessed an electrifying finale as India edged out South Africa by seven runs to claim the 2024 T20 World Cup. This nail biting victory marked a historic comeback for India, ending their long awaited quest for an ICC trophy.

Let’s have a look into more details: IND vs SA – T20 World Cup 2024 Final

Kohli’s Masterclass Leads India to a Record Breaking Score

Virat Kohli, once again, proved why he is one of cricket’s greatest as he anchored India’s innings with a brilliant 76 off 59 balls. India, batting first, set a daunting total of 176/7, the highest ever in a T20 World Cup final. Despite a shaky start, with Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant falling to Keshav Maharaj in the second over, Kohli’s resilience alongside Axar Patel’s gritty 47 ball 47, provided India with a solid foundation.

Axar’s crucial partnership with Kohli added 72 runs for the fourth wicket, steadying the ship after a turbulent powerplay where India found themselves at 22/3. Kohli’s late blitzkrieg against Kagiso Rabada in the 18th over, where he hit a six and a four, further boosted India’s score.

South Africa’s Fightback Falls Short

South Africa’s response was fraught with early setbacks. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh delivered lethal blows within the first three overs, dismissing Reeza Hendricks and captain Aiden Markram. However, Quinton de Kock (39 off 31) and Tristan Stubbs (28 off 20) revived the innings with a 58 run stand, keeping the Proteas’ hopes alive.

The match turned into a gripping contest as Heinrich Klaasen’s aggressive 24-run onslaught against Axar Patel in the 15th over tilted the scales in South Africa’s favor. But India’s bowlers held their nerve. Hardik Pandya’s dismissal of Klaasen in the 17th over proved pivotal, shifting momentum back to India.

The Final Over

With South Africa needing 20 runs off the last 10 balls, the tension at the Kensington Oval was palpable. David Miller’s heroic effort was cut short by a sensational catch from Suryakumar Yadav on the boundary, reinforcing India’s grip on the match.

In a dramatic last over bowled by Arshdeep Singh, India restricted South Africa to just 4 runs, clinching the game and sparking jubilant celebrations. Arshdeep’s impeccable yorkers and the wicket of Keshav Maharaj in the penultimate over highlighted his maturity and skill under pressure.

India’s victory ended an agonizing wait for a World Cup title since their 2011 ODI triumph. For veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, this victory was particularly sweet, potentially marking their swansong in T20 cricket with a crowning achievement. Kohli’s innings, alongside key contributions from the entire team, underscored India’s depth and determination.

South Africa, despite falling short, showcased immense resilience throughout the tournament. Their journey to the final, unbeaten till the last game, speaks volumes about their evolution as a formidable force in world cricket.

India’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup final is a testament to their perseverance, strategy, and the sheer brilliance of their players. As the team basks in the glory of this monumental win, cricket fans around the world celebrate a finale that will be remembered for its intensity and drama. This triumph not only ends India’s long wait for an ICC trophy but also sets the stage for a new era in Indian cricket.
