SS Rajamouli Confirms Nani’s Involvement in His Visionary ‘Mahabharata’ Adaptation

Celebrated filmmaker SS Rajamouli, known for delivering cinematic spectacles like Baahubali and RRR, recently offered fans a thrilling update on his most anticipated venture — Mahabharata.

Speaking at the pre-release event of Hit: The Third Case in Hyderabad, the director revealed a crucial detail: popular actor Nani is officially part of the massive project. Though discussions around this ambitious saga have persisted for years, this marks the first time Rajamouli has openly confirmed casting news.

Rajamouli Offers Key Insight into Dream Project

During the gathering, anchor Suma Kanakala seized the opportunity to verify circulating rumours directly from the filmmaker. Asking if Nani had been locked in for a role, she prompted a straightforward yet exhilarating response from Rajamouli: “All I can say is that Nani is definitely a part of it.”

The affirmation sent ripples of excitement among audiences, who have eagerly awaited any tidbit regarding this magnum opus. Although he refrained from elaborating on Nani’s character or narrative importance, Rajamouli’s confirmation firmly signals that the project’s foundation is actively taking shape.

The Epic Scale of Rajamouli’s Mahabharata

Earlier conversations around the director’s dream venture suggest an undertaking of unprecedented scale. Addressing the monumental challenge of adapting the ancient epic, Rajamouli had previously explained, “If I get to the point of making Mahabharat, it would take me a year just to read the versions of Mahabharat that are available in the country. At present, I can only assume that it would be a 10-part film.”

This ambitious structure reflects Rajamouli’s commitment to doing justice to the complexity and grandeur of the source material. Unlike conventional adaptations or the iconic 266-episode television series, his version aims to bring fresh emotional depth, intricate relationships, and enriched character arcs to the forefront.

Will Ram Charan and Jr NTR Join the Epic?

Given the director’s successful collaborations with superstars like Ram Charan and Jr NTR, curiosity around their involvement in Mahabharata is natural. During an earlier conversation with India TV, Ram Charan himself broached the topic, leading Rajamouli to share more about his creative approach: “The characters that I write for my Mahabharata will not be the same as you have seen or read before. I will tell Mahabharata in my own way. Mahabharata (story) will be the same, but the characters will be enhanced and the inter-relationships between the characters will be added.”

On the question of specific casting choices, Rajamouli remained tactful, asserting, “I know people have made lists of who should play who in the project. But I will decide my characters only after I write my version of Mahabharata.”

Clearly, the director intends to reimagine the epic from his unique perspective before considering who fits each role best, rather than relying on popular expectations or fan theories.
