Spurs manager news: Who is new Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou is a Greek-Australian manager who most recently was in charge of Celtic in Scotland. He helped them win both domestic cups as well as the Scottish Premiership by producing a very strong finish in the season. He has previously managed Yokohama in Japan, and was the manager of the Australian National team between 2013 and 2017.

And having spent two years with the Scottish side, and winning the league title and the Scottish Cup twice with them, he is now on his way to England. This will be the most difficult job that he has taken up so far, and it will be interesting to see how he fares given the pressure.

Tottenham are currently in a very difficult situation, having missed out on European football. The club will be looking to get back in the top six immediately, but fans were hoping for a much more elite appointment than someone who has never managed in the Premier League before.

Tottenham manager news: How did Spurs end up with Postecoglou?

Antonio Conte was sacked towards the end of his season for his public meltdown. And since then, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason have been in charge of the club in an interim manager role. But, the club wanted to make a permanent appointment soon.

They held talks with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, but both of them turned down the opportunity to manage the team. Feyenoord manager Arne Slot was also linked with a switch, but he turned down a move to the Premier League as well, in favour of a contract extension with the Dutch side.

Tottenham have now decided to go with Ange Postecoglou, at a time when they desperately need to get results. The mentality of the club has come under question from great managers like Conte and Mourinho from their times in charge of the club. Whether or not it will change with the new appointment of Postecoglou seems as certain as a coin toss right now.

The next big challenge will be for the club to keep hold of Harry Kane, who only has one year left on his contract.
