Spider-Noir Cancelled at Amazon Prime Video: No Season 2

The Prime Video and MGM+ series, starring Nicolas Cage in his first-ever regular TV role, has been canceled after eight episodes and will not return for a Season 2. The cancellation comes just over three months after Spider-Noir debuted in late May.

About the Show

Based on a character first seen in Marvel Comics, Spider-Noir starred Cage as Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York who, in the wake of personal tragedy, was forced to grapple with his past life as The Spider, the city’s one and only superhero.

Episodes first rolled out on premium cabler MGM+ on May 25, then were released all at once on Prime Video two days later.

Quick Facts

The Creative Team

The Marvel drama came from Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, with the gritty superhero series focusing on Ben Reilly in the 1930s. Oren Uziel served as writer and executive producer on the show, with Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and former Sony boss Amy Pascal also on board as executive producers.

Cast

The series cast also included Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson.

Critical Reception

Despite positive reviews, including a 92 percent critics score and 90 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as 11 Emmy nominations, the most of any Prime Video series this year, Spider-Noir will not return for a second season.

The series got off to a decent start following its May premiere, opening at number 2 on the Nielsen U.S. Top 10 charts. But its initial buzz was short-lived, as it fell out of the Top 10 fairly quickly.

Why Was It Canceled

A specific reason for the cancellation was not disclosed, but it likely came down to cost. Amazon may have felt that critical acclaim and solid viewing figures simply did not justify the show’s hefty price tag.

Emmy Nominations

Although Spider-Noir will not be returning for a second season, the series did pick up 11 nominations for this year’s Primetime Emmys, including nods for production design, prosthetic makeup, visual effects, and stunt coordination and performance. Winners in those categories were announced at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys, taking place Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6, in Los Angeles, California.

Sony and Prime Video Partnership Continues

Despite the cancellation, the broader Amazon and Sony collaboration remains very much alive. Spider-Noir was the first Marvel-related series to premiere out of Amazon’s pact with Sony Pictures TV to develop characters and stories from the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters. The second series to come out of that partnership is already in development and is expected to be announced soon.

Reports reveal that the two sides are carrying on with development of multiple projects, including one mystery title that is said to be nearing a series order.

As for Amazon’s deal to develop multiple live-action shows based on Marvel characters controlled by Sony, the first project originally greenlit was Silk: Spider Society, with Angela Kang as showrunner, but that show was later scrapped. That meant Spider-Noir instead was the first release under the arrangement.

Nicolas Cage and Spider-Man’s Future

Cage did not reprise the role of Noir for the recent Across the Spider-Verse animated sequel, but is expected to return for the final film in the animated trilogy, Beyond the Spider-Verse.
