Two actresses. One perfect public image. And a cold, silent waiting room that tells a completely different story. JTBC’s upcoming drama “We Are All Trying Here” has just released its first stills of Bae Jong Ok and Han Sun Hwa in character — and the contrast between their public facade and private reality is already the most compelling thing we’ve seen all week.

The Perfect Image vs. The Cold Reality
The first stills tell the story better than any synopsis could. At an awards ceremony, Oh Jung Hee (Bae Jong Ok) glows on stage with a trophy in hand while Jang Mi Ran (Han Sun Hwa) beams up at her from below — every inch the picture-perfect, proudly supportive daughter. It’s a beautiful, carefully curated moment designed for public consumption.
Cut to the waiting room. The lights are off. The smiles are gone. A heavy, loaded silence sits between them.
That contrast — polished performance versus suffocated truth — is the beating heart of this storyline, and Bae Jong Ok and Han Sun Hwa look perfectly cast to carry it.
Two Actresses, Two Prisons
Oh Jung Hee is a perfectionist who lives every moment as though cameras are permanently rolling. Her standards are immaculate, and she extends that controlling energy into her stepdaughter’s life without mercy. Meanwhile, Jang Mi Ran isn’t just dealing with a difficult home dynamic — she’s also professionally defined entirely by her mother’s towering reputation. Even as the lead in a film, she’s still just “the daughter of the national actress.”
Her desire to step out from that shadow is deeply relatable, and it gives her character an undercurrent of quiet desperation that should make for some genuinely powerful scenes as the drama unfolds. The production team has teased that viewers will gradually uncover the full history behind their stepmother-stepdaughter relationship — which is only revealed once you tune in.
Bae Jong Ok is one of South Korea’s most celebrated veteran actresses, known for transformative roles across dramas and films spanning decades.
