Housemarque, the Finnish studio behind the critically acclaimed Returnal, has revealed Saros as their next PlayStation Studios exclusive. Set for March 20, 2026, this roguelike action game promises to be the “ultimate evolution” of the company’s gameplay-first adventures, featuring Midnight Mass actor Rahul Kohli.

Saros Game Overview

Release Date	March 20, 2026
Platforms	PS5 (PC likely later)
Developer	Housemarque
Genre	Roguelike action
Main Character	Arjun Devraj (Rahul Kohli)
Setting	Planet Carcosa
PS5 Pro	Enhanced version confirmed

Story & Setting

Set on the planet Carcosa, Saros puts you in the boots of Arjun Devraj, a powerful Soltari Enforcer who is on the hunt for answers on this lost off-world colony that is currently caught in the shadow of a very ominous eclipse.

The game features a haunting story full of nightmarish monsters, with grounded voice-over, cinematics, audio logs, and conversations with several non-playable characters. Players can discover Soltari Holograms that reveal what happened on Carcosa through exploration.

Rahul Kohli’s Performance

Actor Rahul Kohli lends his voice and likeness to Devraj, delivering what Housemarque calls a “grounded” performance. In the trailer, Devraj reflects: “Every time the sun dies, madness reigns, then everything begins again. But after every death, I always come back stronger.”

Revolutionary Combat System

Saros introduces significant gameplay innovations over Returnal:

Soltari Shield Mechanics: By holding R1, Arjun can absorb energy from lethal projectiles and charge up a Carcosan Power Weapon to hit back hard, essentially harvesting enemy attacks and throwing them back.

Eclipse Corruption: Power Weapons transform Arjun’s right arm into an eclipse-fueled weapon, corrupting him in the process – a double-edged sword that gives him a combat edge.

Enhanced Roguelike Elements

Unlike typical roguelikes, Saros offers more permanent progression:

Second chances to cheat death and continue fighting
Permanent upgrades to the Soltari combat suit
Evolving weapon sets that carry between runs
Adaptive loadouts mixing human and alien weaponry

“After every death you will face a changed world, but in Saros you will be able to choose and permanently upgrade your loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit upgrades to ‘come back stronger,'” Housemarque explained.

Platform & Technical Details

Saros will launch on PS5, with Creative director Gregory Louden confirming PS5 Pro enhancement, though specific improvements haven’t been detailed. Like Returnal, a PC release will likely follow 1-2 years later.
