The Five Games That Define 2026

GTA VI (November 19) is the black cloud that looms over everything else. Rockstar delayed it from May to November, reshaping every other release window in the industry. Publishers don’t want to launch within a month of it — which is exactly why Wolverine (September 15) and Forza Horizon 6 (May 19) are where they are.

Marvel’s Wolverine (September 15) is Insomniac’s next major PS5 exclusive — an M-rated, fully violent take on Logan searching for answers about his past, with Sabretooth, Mystique, Omega Red, and the Sentinels confirmed. The last solo Wolverine game was in 2009.

Forza Horizon 6 (May 19) finally takes the series to Japan — the most-requested Horizon destination for over a decade. Launches Xbox/PC first; PS5 version comes later in the year. Available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.

Crimson Desert (March 16) from Pearl Abyss is the year’s biggest action RPG wildcard — a melee-combat open world built in Black Desert’s engine, centred on mercenary Kliff on the ravaged continent of Pywel. The combat footage has been some of the most impressive shown all year.

Resident Evil Requiem (February 27) introduces FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft alongside Leon S. Kennedy in a dual-character mechanic — Grace’s slow-burn survival horror contrasting with Leon’s combat-heavy sequences, set in a new location beyond Raccoon City.
