Realme Reveals Plans for a Book-Style Folding Phone Despite Previous Development Pause in 2024

Realme is working on a foldable smartphone, according to this patent discovered by 91mobiles on the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) website. This revelation is unexpected, considering the company had announced earlier this year that it would pause its foldable phone development due to specific concerns. But first up, we’ll need to look at the patent diagrams before digging into why Realme would be looking in this direction.

The Upcoming Realme Book-Style Folding Phone

The book-style folding phone that Realme seems to be working on based on the patent images also includes a magnetic hinge mechanism so it can easily fold and unfold. The filings also discuss a thermal transient strategy that can move heat from one side to the next as dictated by changes in balance temperature.

Each portion of the device appears wider, making it look more like a classic book compared to an earlier patent that showed a slimmer form factor similar to the Galaxy Z Fold. Time will tell what the final design Realme goes with, and it could lean on its sister brands like OnePlus, Vivo, and OPPO for inspiration.
