From Sai Pallavi to Rashmika — The Casting Journey
This biopic has been one of the most talked-about projects in South Indian cinema for a while. Actresses Rukmini Vasanth and Sai Pallavi were previously rumoured to be in contention for the iconic role before Rashmika’s name entered the frame.
According to reports, Rashmika recently underwent a look test for the role at her residence, and earlier this year she was said to have even begun preparing for the character by training in Carnatic music. That level of dedication, if true, signals just how seriously this project is being taken.
MS Subbulakshmi was the first musician ever to receive the Bharat Ratna and remains one of the most revered voices in Indian classical music history — making this biopic a monumental undertaking for any actress.
What’s Rashmika Up To Otherwise?
The actress isn’t short on work. She is currently gearing up for Cocktail 2, co-starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon — a spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit — set to release on June 19, 2026.
Looking further ahead, she stars alongside her husband Vijay Deverakonda in the period action drama Ranabaali, directed by Rahul Sankrityayan, scheduled for release on September 11, 2026. She also has the action film Mysaa in her pipeline.
