Hulu has confirmed that its long-awaited Prison Break revival, titled Prison Break: Black Creek, has officially entered production. The streamer shared two brief teaser clips this September confirming the milestone, though no premiere date has been announced yet.
A Long Road to Production
Development on a new Prison Break series first began at Hulu back in 2023, with the streamer officially ordering the show in October 2025. The pilot episode was filmed in June 2025 in Wheeling and Moundsville, West Virginia, using the former West Virginia Penitentiary as the show’s central prison location.

Full series production began in June 2026, with filming moving to soundstages at the Radford Studio Center in Los Angeles. The production received an $18.9 million tax credit to film in California. Hulu confirmed the series had entered production in September 2026, sharing a pair of short teaser videos showing glimpses inside the fictional Black Creek Penitentiary.

A New Story, Away From the Original Leads
Unlike the original Fox series, Prison Break: Black Creek is not expected to feature Michael Scofield or Lincoln Burrows, the characters played by Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell in the original show. Purcell confirmed his and Miller’s absence from the new series in an Instagram post, reflecting on the original show’s success and wishing the new production well.

Instead, the new series follows an entirely new story. According to its official logline, an ex-soldier turned corrections officer takes a job at Black Creek Penitentiary, one of the deadliest prisons in America, in order to prove how far she is willing to go for someone she loves.
Cast and Crew
Emily Browning leads the cast as Cassidy, the corrections officer at the centre of the story. She’s joined by Drake Rodger as Tommy, Lukas Gage as Jackson, Clayton Cardenas as Michael “Ghost,” JR Bourne as Junior, Georgie Flores as Andrea, and Myles Bullock as Darius “Red.” The cast has since been rounded out further with additions including Noah Emmerich, Catfish Jean, Augie Duke, and Brad Beyer.
Elgin James serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer, and will also direct the pilot episode. Original Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring is attached as an executive producer on the new series as well.
What to Expect
Speaking about the tone of the new show, actor Lukas Gage said fans “might see a couple of OGs coming back,” while also noting that being on Hulu rather than network television allows the series to go grittier and darker than the original. He described the project as an homage to the show he grew up loving, while pushing it in a bolder direction.

While a release date has not yet been confirmed, the confirmation of production getting underway suggests Prison Break: Black Creek could realistically arrive sometime in 2027, though Hulu has not given any official timeline.
