While Perfect Crown builds toward a slow-burn romance between IU’s Sung Hee-Joo and Byeon Woo-Seok’s Grand Prince Yi Ahn, the drama’s emotional foundation rests on powerful supporting characters. Yoo Su-Bin and Lee Yeon play crucial confidant roles that ground the narrative’s palace intrigue and give both leads someone to trust when palace politics become suffocating.
Yoo Su-Bin plays Choi Hyeon, a loyal aide dedicated to Prince Yi Ahn who follows strict palace protocol in public but shares a casual, close relationship with the prince outside the palace walls. This duality—formal servant by day, trusted friend by night—positions Hyeon as the prince’s emotional anchor while navigating royal hierarchy.
Perfect Crown: The Support System Breakdown
Lee Yeon portrays Do Hye-Jung, Sung Hee-Joo’s chief secretary who becomes the chaebol heiress’s most relied-upon confidant. While Hye-Jung is the person Hee-Joo relies on most, they frequently clash on various issues, creating a dynamic where loyalty doesn’t mean blind agreement—exactly what a strong character needs during her palace integration.
| Character | Actor | Role | Relationship | Function |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Choi Hyeon | Yoo Su-Bin | Prince’s Aide | Loyal confidant | Emotional anchor |
| Do Hye-Jung | Lee Yeon | Secretary | Chief advisor | Reality checker |
| Sung Hee-Joo | IU | Chaebol Heiress | Main lead | Social climber |
| Prince Yi Ahn | Byeon Woo-Seok | Grand Prince | Main lead | Melancholic royal |
The Confidant Advantage
What makes these supporting roles crucial is that they allow the main characters to be vulnerable. Lee Yeon displayed a friendly senior-junior dynamic with IU’s character Sung Hee-Joo, while portraying a dependable best friend alongside Byeon Woo-Seok’s Prince Yi Ahn, hinting at a key role that moves between support and tension in the story.
Perfect Crown, premiering April 3, 2026, unfolds in a modern constitutional monarchy where both leads feel trapped by their status—one too rich but not royal, one royal but with no real power. Their confidants become the mirror reflecting their fears and desires.
