PEN Marudhar Bags Love And War: Why This Distribution Deal Is A Bigger Deal Than It Sounds

Every big film needs the right team behind the scenes, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s most-awaited period drama just found a powerful one. PEN Marudhar has officially secured the All India distribution rights for “Love and War” — and this move says a lot about the studio’s growing dominance in Bollywood.

The Deal, Explained

While financial specifics remain undisclosed, industry indications suggest a commission-based agreement backed by a hefty advance from PEN Marudhar. With “Love and War” slated for a Republic Day week release, the film is currently in its final production stretch, with the studio stepping in right as its marketing campaign kicks off.

PEN Marudhar’s Growing Slate

This isn’t an isolated bet. The distribution studio is already closing out the year strong with Shah Rukh Khan’s “King” and holds rights to Akshay Kumar’s “Samuk.” It has also entered a five-film partnership with Luv Films, covering projects like the Sourav Ganguly biopic and Luv Ranjan’s next directorial venture — positioning PEN Marudhar as one of the most active distribution players in the Hindi film industry right now.

Why Love And War Carries Extra Weight?

This marks the first time Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal have come together under a single Bhansali directorial. It’s also a full-circle moment for Ranbir, reuniting with Bhansali nearly two decades after “Saawariya,” while Alia returns to his world following “Gangubai Kathiawadi.” Bhansali’s films are widely known for their opulent visual style and emotionally driven narratives, a signature approach that has defined much of his celebrated filmography (read more about his body of work on Wikipedia).

What This Means For Distributors And Fans?

Distribution deals like this often signal early confidence in a film’s box office potential, especially for a Republic Day slot historically reserved for major releases. With production nearing completion and star power already generating buzz, expectations are only climbing.
