Patriot Kerala Box Office: Mollywood’s Most Hyped Reunion Turns Into a Quiet Disappointment at Rs 27 Crore in 10 Days

When Mammootty and Mohanlal — two of Malayalam cinema’s all-time greats — share a screen together after nearly 18 years, expectations are naturally sky-high. Unfortunately, Patriot hasn’t lived up to the hype at the box office. The spy thriller directed by Mahesh Narayanan is fading fast, and the numbers tell an honest story. According to Wikipedia’s overview of Malayalam cinema, the industry has a strong tradition of content-driven hits — and when audience word-of-mouth turns mixed, even the biggest stars can’t hold the fort. What the Numbers Are Saying

The opening weekend was promising — Rs. 18.75 crore across the first three days showed that curiosity was real and fans showed up. But then came the cliff. The film crashed nearly 85% in its second weekend, collecting only Rs. 2.90 crore (with Day 10 Sunday contributing Rs. 1.10 crore). That kind of freefall almost always signals one thing: the audience watched, didn’t love it, and the word spread fast.

Patriot is now heading toward a Week 2 close around Rs. 30 crore, with a projected total theatrical run of Rs. 35–40 crore in Kerala — a figure that falls well short of what a reunion of this magnitude deserved. The verdict is clear: it’s a flop.

Mixed audience reactions did the most damage. The premise — a high-stakes spy thriller headlined by two legends — had everything going for it on paper. But what landed on screen didn’t connect deeply enough to sustain momentum beyond the opening excitement.

The next big Malayalam release, Drishyam 3, is already generating buzz, and eyes will be on whether Mohanlal can bounce back strongly with that franchise. Keep track of all Malayalam box office numbers at TechnoSports.
