Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Box Office: Ayushmann Khurrana’s Film Inches Toward Rs 40 Crore — A Decent Run in a Tough Era for Mid-Budget Comedies

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is doing what it needs to do — quietly, steadily, without any fireworks. Ayushmann Khurrana’s romantic comedy directed by Mudassar Aziz collected Rs 1 crore nett on its second Monday, registering a 20 percent drop from second Friday, and taking its overall running total to Rs 36 crore nett at the Indian box office by Day 11.

The Rs 40 crore milestone is now within striking distance, and the film is expected to wind up its entire theatrical run somewhere in the Rs 40–45 crore range, with an outside shot at Rs 50 crore if the weekday holds remain stable

What the Numbers Really Mean

On paper, Rs 36 crore in 11 days for a Bollywood mid-budget comedy is a functional result — not a disaster, not a triumph. But context matters here.

The post-2020 era has been particularly unforgiving for this exact genre. The small-town Hindi comedy was once a reliable crowd-puller — and Ayushmann Khurrana was arguably its biggest poster boy during 2018–2019, delivering back-to-back hits that opened briskly and held even better. Had Pati Patni Aur Woh Do released during that window, trade observers suggest it could have opened three to five times higher than it actually did.

The audience appetite for theatrical mid-budget content has shifted significantly in a post-OTT world, making Rs 36 crore at this stage a somewhat face-saving performance — not the box office statement the film or its lead perhaps hoped for. The Bigger Picture: Ayushmann and the Mid-Budget Comedy Space

Ayushmann Khurrana built his career on exactly this kind of film — sharp, relatable, socially aware comedies that punch above their budget at the box office. His recent outing Thamma performed considerably better and reaffirmed his ability to connect with audiences on the right material.

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do lands in a more challenging spot — not because of any failure of craft, but because the market for this kind of theatrical entertainment has contracted meaningfully since the OTT boom. According to Wikipedia, Ayushmann Khurrana is one of Bollywood’s most commercially reliable actors in the mid-budget space, with a string of socially themed hits cementing his unique brand of cinema. This one is unlikely to join that elite list, but it does add to his consistent theatrical presence.

The film co-starring Wamiqa Gabbi, Rakupreet Singh, and Sara Ali Khan rounds out an ensemble that clearly worked hard — the final numbers will now depend on how it performs over the remainder of the week. For more Bollywood box office analysis, visit TechnoSports.
