China vs India : The first football friendly in 21 years

In preparation for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, India face their mighty neighbours China at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium in Suzhou City, Jiangsu province on Saturday in a friendly.

India have not won a single match out of the 17, while China have won on 12 occasions. Five matches have ended in draws. The senior teams of India and China last played in the 1997 Nehru Cup in Kochi which the ‘Red Dragons’ won 2-1.

China is ranked at 76th. They walk in as overwhelming favourites. But India, under Stephen Constantine, have made great strides in the recent past and are now ranked at 97th. India made its way into Asia’s flagship tournament for the first time since 1984 through the qualifying rounds.

Match Preview

china football

China :

Marcelo Lippi led his native Italy to the 2006 FIFA World Cup title. However, his stint as head coach of the People’s Republic of China team hasn’t been smooth sailing. He has won only a third of the matches. But the former Guangzhou Evergrande manager has been trusted to lead the Dragons till the Asian Cup at least.

The immediate concern surrounding the team is the sheer lack of goals. They lost to Qatar 1-0 and were held goalless by Bahrain who are India’s Group A opponents in the Asian Cup.

Forward Yu Dabao has earned a recall to the team. He will be expected to help out 32-year-old Gao Lin. His last goal from open play in national colours came in December 2014. Wu Lei will be deployed on the left flank. He will look to continue his impressive form of late which has seen him notch up 23 goals and 8 assists from 24 outings in the 2018 Chinese Super League (CSL). Zhao Xuri will take up the central role in midfield. Lippi is not expected to make many changes in defence. However, Shanghai SIPG custodian Yan Junling seems to have displaced Zheng Cheng as the numero uno.

india football

India :

Stephen Constantine is expected to stick to a settled squad and is not expected to make a lot of changes.

Subhasish Bose, the U23 national team captain, has an edge over Narayan Das whose form has been on and off over the year. He should start at left-back. Constantine might be tempted to play Rowllin Borges ahead of Anirudh Thapa alongside Pronay Halder, given their contrasting Indian Super League (ISL) form. Skipper Sunil Chhetri is expected to play behind Jeje who is the focal point. The Mizoram striker will be looking to cement his place in the first XI with the Asian Cup fast approaching. Constantine should use all his six substitutes which should see the likes of Nikhil Poojary, Ashique Kuruniyan and Salam Ranjan Singh all get vital minutes on the pitch in the run up to the Asian Cup.

As the Blue Tigers push on for recognition in the continent, there would be no better way to test themselves against a nation in the upper echelons of Asia.

Virat Kohli’s objection for SG ball and support for Dukes ball led SG raise the standard of the seam

On the eve of the second Test against the West Indies, Virat Kohli tore into the SG red ball saying that it was inferior to the Dukes (used in England and the West Indies) and the Kookaburra Test ball.

Unhappy with SG, Virat Kohli wants Dukes to be used for all Test matches.

The India captain(Virat Kohli) even went to the extent of recommending Dukes for Test cricket all over the world.

dukes Virat Kohli’s objection for SG ball and support for Dukes ball led SG raise the standard of the seam

“The Dukes ball is the most suited ball for Test cricket,” said Kohli at the pre-match press conference in Hyderabad. “If there’s a situation, I would vouch for that to be used all over the world because of the consistency of the ball and how the bowlers are in the game at any stage, even the spinners. Because the seam is so hard and upright.”

Before Kohli, of-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had said that he felt better bowling with Kookaburra balls than SG. “Right now, I would say the Kookaburra red ball is a lot better ball, Dukes is also right up there. Pretty disappointed with the current SG ball. It used to be top-notch, the seam used to stand up strong even after 70-80 overs. It’s not the same anymore,” Ashwin had said after the first Test.

kohli Virat Kohli’s objection for SG ball and support for Dukes ball led SG raise the standard of the seam

“I totally agree with him,” added Virat Kohli. “To have a ball scuffed up in five overs is something that we haven’t seen before. The quality of the ball used to be quite high before and I don’t understand the reason why it has gone down. A Dukes ball is still good quality, Kookaburra is still good quality. Whatever limitations a Kookaburra might have (a flatter seam than Dukes and SG), the quality is never compromised,” Kohli explained.

Four must watch matches in this international break

It was an intense and grilling four weeks of club football action, after the inauguration of the UEFA Nations League. And it’s now time for another international break.

Managers and players have already voiced their disdain for pointless friendlies and UEFA Nations League football. But there are still a few interesting ties to look out for. So we’ve done our best to try and list them all!

Here are four games you need to watch in this international break :

croatia vs england

Croatia vs England – 12:15 pm,12th October

This fixture takes us back by almost three months when Croatia and England battled it out in Russia for a place in the World Cup final. Kevin Trippier gave the Three Lions the lead with an impeccable free-kick, but the Blazers hit back late in the game to send them packing. And as interesting as it was back then, the latest encounter too carries as many expectations.

Both these teams went down to Spain in the Nations League opener last month, especially Croatia, who were battered 6-0 in Elche – their worst defeat in history. So these sides have a point to prove to get themselves back on track.

The World Cup runners-up play hosts this time as Stadion Rujevica will be staging the top billing affair and both Croatia and England would be gunning for maximum points.

spain vs england

Spain vs England – 12:15 pm, 15th October

In a repeat of last month’s tie at Wembley, Spain host England in Seville. Spain endured an awful World Cup after sacking Julen Lopetegui, b appointing Fernando Hierro, who then resigned following their early exit as Luis Enrique was appointed. However they’ve put that to one side and are looking like the Spain of old. They were confident in London before putting six past Croatia, showing again the embarrassment of riches they boast.

What makes good sides ‘great’ is how consistent you can be with such a patchy schedule and against tough opposition, La Roja know this is a chance to make a statement. England also have a statement to make. Was the World Cup a fluke or have they really changed?

Gareth Southgate was rewarded with a new contract and now the hard work begins. The core of the squad remains the same. But with some exciting young players coming through, challenging the likes of Spain, Belgium and France for Euro 2020 will be the target. Southgate hinted before his squad announcement last week that “performances matter more than results” and that “Nations League relegation doesn’t matter” which is fine. But beating Spain on home soil – after they beat you – would really cement the squad’s credentials.

france vs germany

France vs Germany – 12:15 pm, 16th October

The European top shouts, Germany and France inaugurated the UEFA Nations League with a whimper when these sides played a dour goalless stalemate in Munich last month. Now they meet again for the second leg, this time in Paris, where you can normally expect fireworks.

France saw off Netherlands 2-1 in another group fixture last month to make a positive homecoming as the world champions. But this time they can expect a tougher contest against the fallen giants. Germany are still reeling from a catastrophic year. They have won only thrice in 9 games with two important fixtures now coming their way.

Manager Joachim Loew has vowed to rebuild the Germany team. Here’s a chance to put that resolve to the test.

brazil vs argentia

Brazil vs Argentina – 11:30 pm, 16th October

Just a friendly, but that’s reason enough to tune into this year’s Superclasico de las Americas. It will take place in the neutral surroundings of Saudi Arabia. Both Brazil and Argentina would be spending their international break in the Gulf region with another fixture lined-up before this. But they would be all charged up for this starry affair.

Messi-less Argentina are also in a period of transition under Lionel Scaloni. He has selected an exciting squad for their upcoming friendlies. Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala – marginalised under the previous regime have been called up. Cristian Pavón, Lautaro Martínez and Giovanni Simeone are also in the Argentina squad. Santiago Ascacibar and Giovani Lo Celso have also been rewarded for their impressive club form at Stuttgart and Real Betis respectively.

Neither of these teams had a memorable World Cup, but have embarked on the road to redemption ahead of the 2019 Copa America with some big victories last month. This game, however, would give a real assessment of which directions the teams are headed in.

Ballon d’Or 2018 : Dybala, Lewandowski, De Gea and several others surprisingly overlooked

Hugo Lloris, Karim Benzema and Diego Godin have  made the Ballon d’Or 2018 shortlist. But players like David de Gea, Paulo Dybala and Lewandowski have missed out.

Juventus forward Paulo Dybala and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski  have missed out on the 2018 Ballon d’Or. They are among several other big names who have missed out after the announcement of the 30-strong list of nominees. Both Dybala and Lewandowski were in contention for the 2017 award after title-winning seasons with their respective clubs. But despite retaining those crowns and enjoying fine campaigns. They were overlooked by the journalists and national team coaches and captains who took part in France Football’s 2018 vote.

Karim Benzema scored just 5 league goals in 32 appearances for Real Madrid last season. But surprisingly he is in the running for this year’s award.

Some of Europe’s finest talents know that they will not be named the world’s best player in December. Here are 10 of the biggest stars who failed to make the cut.

dybala

Paulo Dybala

Argentina international Dybala would perhaps admit himself that he had a slow start to the 2018-19 season with Juventus. But his haul of 22 goals in 33 Serie A appearances, his career-best, made him one of the Bianconeri’s key players last season. He will be disappointed not to be among the Ballon d’Or nominees.

Andres Iniesta

Iniesta may have stepped out of the spotlight of European football by joining Vissel Kobe in the J.League. But he was nevertheless a key member of the Barcelona team that won a league and cup double in 2017-18.

Gianluigi Buffon

Since featuring on the Ballon d’Or shortlist in 2017, 40-year-old Buffon won his ninth Serie A title with Juventus. He contested with Alphonse Areola for the number one shirt at Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. The veteran stopper may feel he deserved one more chance to be named the world’s best.

Robert Lewandowski

Lewandowski scored 41 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich in 2017-18. He netted another 8 goals in 10 games so far this season. This gives him every right to feel disgruntled about his omission.

Dani Alves

Dani Alves was named in the FIFPro World XI after helping Paris Saint-Germain win the Ligue 1 title. But he failed to make the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or and, at the age of 35, he might not get another chance.

Leonardo Bonucci

When Bonucci made the shortlist for the 2017 award, he was fresh from winning his sixth consecutive Serie A title with Juventus. A year later, he is back in Turin but recovering his best form after a disappointing season at AC Milan.

Philippe Coutinho

Barcelona paid Liverpool a reported €120million to take Coutinho to Camp Nou. He scored eight goals in 18 appearances as the Blaugrana won LaLiga, but sadly it was not enough to earn him a place on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

David de Gea

De Gea is widely regarded as the world’s best goalkeeper. He also featured recently in the FIFA FIFPro World XI 2018. But De Gea’s personal achievements have been overshadowed by Spain and Manchester United’s recent struggles.

Gonzalo Higuain

Higuain’s last season at Juventus was not his best. But with 23 goals in all competitions he was more lethal in 2017-18 than Benzema.

Gerard Pique

While his Real Madrid rival Sergio Ramos is in the running for this year’s Ballon d’Or, Barcelona defender Pique misses out. Perhaps he will console himself with his 2017-18 LaLiga and Copa del Rey titles.

New Intel 9th Generation Core Processors launched

Intel launches new 9th Gen Core Processors with up to 8 cores and 16 threads with 5GHz Turbo Boost in Clock Speed

Chip maker Intel has finally unveiled their new set of processors – the 9th Gen Core processors based on 14++ nm architecture. Surprisingly, Intel has only unveiled the 3 higher end CPUs- Core i9-9900K (8-Core), i7-9700K, & i5-9600K.

These CPUs are drop-in compatible with current Coffee Lake and Z370 platforms. These new CPUs are also accompanied by a new Z390 chipset and associated motherboards as well.

Much like Ryzen 2nd gen, Intel has only launched the higher end processors after Core i5 and newly introduced the Core i9-9900K. The new Core i9-9900K has similar specs as we predicted before.

The Core i9-9900K has a max clock frequency boost up to 5GHz. This time the TDPs of these new 9th gen processors will be 95W, and all of them are overclockable… 🙂

These new 9th Gen processors have been termed as the World’s Best Gaming Processors by Intel.

All the processors are expected to be available in the market from 19th October.

New Chips with 8 cores

This is the first time that Intel has announced a processor with 8 cores and extended the number of threads to 16. The thing that is more interesting is that the base clock speed of the cores is near around 3.6GHz.

These 8 core CPUs will directly compete with AMD’s mainstream Ryzen CPUs that are known for its “large number of a number of threads and cores.” Intel has claimed that these processors will help gamers particularly to get higher frame rates in games.

With 8 cores, works like Video Editing, Image processing, developing and others will just also become buttery smooth.

The Core i9-9900K leads the list with 8 cores and 16 threads, which makes this a total beast. It has a base clock speed of 3.6 GHz at 95W TDP and a turbo up to 5.0 GHz on two cores. A big disappointment of the 9th gen processors is that it has a DDR4 memory support only up to dual-channel 2666MHz.

New Intel 9th Generation Core Processors launched

The Core i9-9900K has been build upon the Core i7-8086K from the 8th Generation product line by adding two more cores to it. Also, the turbo clock speed has been increased to 5.0 GHz from one core to two cores.

The all-core turbo clock speed is 4.7 GHz. So, it will be interesting to see what the power consumption is when the processor is overclocked to max clock speed. The Core i9 family will feature a full 2MB of L3 cache per core.

The Core i7-9700K has 8 cores but without the hyperthreading. This one will have a base frequency of 3.6 GHz with a given 95W TDP. This Core i7 can turbo boosted up to 4.9 GHz only on a single core.

New Intel 9th Generation Core Processors launched

The i7-9700K is the direct upgrade over the Core i7-8700K. Although both of the chips have the same underlying Coffee Lake microarchitecture, the 9700K has two more cores and slightly better turbo performance, but less L3 cache per core at only 1.5MB per core.

Another mid-end overclocked based processor is the Core i5-9600K, with 6 cores without hyperthreading. You will notice a lot of similarity of the 9th Gen Core i5 to the 8th Gen Core, but with added frequency.

Soon we will be making another post on the improvements, changes and fixes in the new 9th Gen Core family. So stay tuned… 🙂
