Sundar Pichai apologizes to EU over leaked internal documents

0

Google has been making headlines recently and it seems it is not in a good way. Recently, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet (Parent company of Google) gave out an apology. The official apology was addressed to Europe’s industry chief Thierry Breton. Apparently, the documents regarding tactics to tackle EU rules were leaked online.

According to sources, the leaked internal documents suggested that Google was proposing actions that would counter the strict EU rules on internet companies. It was even lobbying against the EU commissioner according to the leaked documents. Sources state that the senior executive’s from Google and Breton interacted with each other in a video conference earlier this month. It was the third conference in 2020 held between the two organizations.

Brenton stated in an interview that “I’m was not surprised. I’m not naive. I thought it was a bit old fashioned. In any case, yes I had a discussion with Sundar… I told him what I had to tell him….he apologized. (I told him) If you need to tell me something, my door will always be open.”

According to sources, the leaked internal document apparently defined a 60-day strategy against the European Union for pushing stricter rules on internet companies. The android maker planned to involve US-based allies to push back against Brenton.

Pichai stated that he would approach Brenton directly regarding any policy that mentions Google directly. And he also apologized regarding the document stating that he had no idea regarding the contents of the file.

Brenton stated that “The Internet cannot remain a ‘Wild West’: we need clear and transparent rules, a predictable environment and balanced rights and obligations.” He is also set to announce new rules known as the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act together with European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager on 2nd December 2020.

Google and Apple joins the development of 6G

0

5G is the latest wireless network technology that the world is yet to adapt to completely. Most of the smartphones have been launched with support for the new wireless technology despite it being limited to only a few countries. But the new technology is increasingly becoming the new standard in the smartphone industry. With the launch of new devices like iPhone 12 and Pixel that support 5G, it stands to show just how serious the tech companies really are about the 5G technology.

However, the next generation of networking is already in development in different parts of the world. The revolutionary 6G is said to be 100 to 500 times faster than the current 5G network. And according to sources, Google and Apple both have joined the new 6G industry group. Hence, we can most likely expect 6G iPhones and Pixels to come out by the next couple of years. The supposed Next G Alliance will be holding their first meeting next week and will be led by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS).

Susan Miller ATIS CEO stated, “While the world is exploring opportunities that will light the path to 6G, the US must take timely and critical action to ensure unquestioned leadership in 6G innovation and development. Old models of leadership are not going to play in this new future in light of the geopolitical landscape. If the US is really going to assert its leadership, it’s going to have to act in a new way.”

The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions is a North America trade association whose primary goal is to “advance North American mobile technology leadership in 6G and beyond over the next decade, while building on the long-term evolution of 5G.” With Apple and Google joining the likes of Charter Communications, Cisco, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Intel, Keysight Technologies, LG Electronics, Mavenir, MITRE and VMware; the world may soon feel the power of 6G revolution.

Insulation and Cooling features for Flagship Smartphones might be very important in the future

0

Years after years the technology is improving, so as our beloved smartphones. Especially, if we talk about high-end smartphones, most of them are powered by a sheer powerful processor for high-end performance. Battery capacity as well as the capacity of charging adapter is also increasing day by day. There are mostly advantages for all those improvements. But we should not avoid the cons, for example, the heating issue. Like, this is the main issue that most of the smartphone users face in their daily life, for excessive working or gaming. That’s why, it is expected that, in the future, smartphone insulations and cooling features might be very important for every smartphone, especially for the high-end ones.

This solution is mostly needed for gaming smartphone manufacturers, such as Asus, Lenovo, and so on. If you are a gamer and it is your smartphone gaming is like your cup of tea, then every day you have to spend quite a lot of time with your smartphone for gaming. So, in this case, the heating issue is very common. High-end processors and excessive daily usage are the reasons for the heating issue of your phone.

So, in the future, thermal management will be a very important thing. There can be some sophisticated materials, such as graphite or graphene sheets, vapor chambers, and many more. As per the reports of IDTechEx, heat dissipation falls into mainly two categories: firstly, the heat spreaders (graphite) and secondly, thermal interface materials. A number of smartphone manufacturers, such as Huawei, Samsung, Nubia, Xiaomi have to choose any of the heat dissipation processes. In the upcoming days, these things will be the most important when you’ll buy your next smartphone. It can be a good marketing method as well. Like, a better cooling process is equal to a higher price.

Alongside the cooling process, smartphone insulation is another thing to which the smartphone manufacturers have to be more attentive in the future. On the basis of a human skin temperature, things have to go on its way. Who can say, in the future, we’ll use a smartphone with certain air-gaps just like high-end gaming CPUs in the market right now to get rid of this heating issue?

There will be neither any Galaxy Note nor the OnePlus 9 Ultra in 2021

Some reports have come out regarding the future smartphones from 2021. Now it is said that there will be no Samsung Galaxy Note as well as the OnePlus 9 Ultra in 2021. Let’s talk about both the smartphone manufacturers one by one.

In terms of OnePlus, it is going to launch its OnePlus 9 series in the next year. So, quite naturally, we’ve expected that OnePlus will bring a vanilla model alongside the OnePlus 9 Pro and the OnePlus 9 Ultra. But unfortunately, there will be no OnePlus Ultra in the next year, as per the reports.

In this year of 2020, OnePlus has released two smartphones of its OnePlus 8 series: OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. The company has released four model numbers for the two smartphones for China, Europe, and Asia, India, and North America respectively. The same thing went for the OnePlus Nord, two model numbers: one for India and another for Europe.

As per the availability, OnePlus 9 series is expected to be launched in March 2021. Let’s check out the model numbers of the two upcoming smartphones of the OnePlus 9 series:

  • LE2117 LE2127
  • LE2119

Another similar type of news has come regarding the Samsung Galaxy Note. In 2021, Samsung is set to launch its S21 series, in which we’ll be going to get four devices: Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 FE, and S21 Ultra (expected four). On the other hand, in terms of Flip & Folds, Samsung is going to launch three devices: Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, and Z Fold FE.

But unfortunately, we will miss the next Samsung Galaxy Note in 2021. Moreover, it is also rumored that Samsung is going to replace its Note series with the Z series. As of now, we have no information about this issue.

ZTE Blade V2020, still performing pretty well with its older mid-range chipset

0

Generally, when we buy a new smartphone, there are two main things that come into our minds: technology and performance. Like for example, if a smartphone is launched with relatively older technology (ex: processor), in many cases it lags performance. But, in several cases, we also witness that in spite of having significantly older SoCs, belonged to the mid-range at the time, still very much capable of delivering enough performance for modern applications.

For example, we can take the name of the ZTE Blade V2020. This phone is powered by the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset. Regarding this Helio P70 chipset, it was released in April 2019. So, we can say that it is comparatively older now. This chipset is accompanied by an ARM Mali-G72 MP3 graphics unit. If we consider the chipset as the basis, then for under 300 Euros (~$355), the SoC of the ZTE Blade V2020 is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. But it lags the dedicated SD card slot. You have to choose between a nano-SIM and a microSD card.

Now let’s talk about the display. This phone has a quite large and bright display. The PWM of the display is limited to a very high frequency of 63,290 Hz and only turns on at brightness levels below 23%. So, people with sensitive eyes can find the benefit in this case. The panel is not super AMOLED or an OLED. It features an IPS LCD display, which is quite good for sensitive eyes. The ZTE Blade v2020 has also managed to bag a good score in terms of the camera and WLAN performance.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Pro camera specs leaked online

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will be launching pretty soon, and as we wait for the devices, we are faced with leaks and rumours. We have already heard about the main camera assembly of this next-gen flagship. According to various rumours, the devices will feature two telephoto lenses.

But now, finally, the technical details about the product is released, and it is allegedly something that should worry about rivals like Apple and Google. The alleged leaker who goes by the name of Ice universe revealed the following details regarding the two telephoto cameras of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. In his tweet, he highlighted that the camera would be “the strongest optical zoom system known,”.

The features of the camera are:

  • 3X 1/2.8″ 10MP 1.22μm dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus
  • 10X 1/2.8″ 10MP 1.22μm dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus

Currently, Huawei has the most potent optical zoom setup in the market. Its Huawei P40 Pro Plus has 50 MP + 8 MP (3x) + 8 MP (10x) + 40 MP, which is followed closely by Vivo X30 Pro that has an 64 MP + 13 MP (5x) + 32 MP (2x) + 8 MP setup. Apple, on the other hand, is currently placed third with its Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max that has 5x optical zoom range, with 2.5x optical zoom in and 2x optical zoom out.

The leaker also stated that the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra would also feature laser autofocus, dual-video recording with 4K 60 fps video for all cameras along with 8K 30fps of video recording supported by the main camera.

The camera specs of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultralooks really juicy, but all of it will be in vain if the processor accompanying the device fails to perform well concerning the competition. As to how the new device from Samsung will turn out remains to be seen.

The new Apple Mac mini with M1 chips delivers never-seen-before single-core scores on Geekbench

0

Apple launched its much-awaited own silicon chip for its Macs for the first time, and we are already amazed by its CPU and GPU performance via the leaked MacBook benchmarks. So, Geekbench has given us another interesting performance leak of the new M1 chip but running on a Mac mini.

It makes more sense to buy a Mac mini this time as its cheaper this time but far more powerful than before. With a cooling fan, it could practically crank up more performance out of sleek and small design of it.

So, if you are someone who has been waiting for the new Mac mini with Apple M1 chip, then you’ll be surprised to know that this chip on such a small mini-computer can deliver performance that competes against the newest AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors while shredding Intel CPUs to dust under a lower TDP.

The recent leak of the Apple M1 chip on a fanless MacBook Air shows a Geekbench 5 listing for the M1 MacBook Air saying the new Apple Silicon is faster than an 8-core Intel Core i9-9880H found on a 16-inch MacBook Pro. This remains the case for a wide range of new Geekbench listings of the new Mac mini.

We will focus on the highest score listing of the new Mac mini that shows the new 8-core CPU scoring 1756 points on single-core and 7724 points on multi-core. This single-core score puts the new Apple M1 chip in line with the new overclocked Ryzen 5000 series processors, check out the comparison from here.

The new Apple Mac mini with M1 chips delivers never-seen-before single-core scores on Geekbench

This is an incredible feat because the new Apple M1 chip takes much less power than even AMD’s efficient Zen 3 based CPUs, which makes the new Mac mini at $699 more valuable at its price.

The new Apple Mac mini with M1 chips delivers never-seen-before single-core scores on Geekbench

If you carefully compare the multi-core score of the M1 chip on the Mac mini, i.e., 7724 points, makes it on par with the Core i9-9900 and even more powerful than a desktop Core i7-9700K; however, fails to beat the newer Core i7-10700 or even the Ryzen 5 5600X.

The new 5nm chip’s efficiency and performance are evident, and Apple has indeed made great SoC in its first attempt. Also, do note the benchmark was with the 8GB unified memory variant, so you can imagine what Apple has made in such a small chassis; definitely get hold of the new Mac mini this time:

Zoom removes the 40 minutes limit

0

The lockdown induced by the global pandemic and the dependency on technology has led to an increase in demand for the global rise in video conferencing platforms. And the company that has gained more advantage profit is Zoom.

The video conferencing platform saw an increasing amount of subscribers, and due to this, it also saw an increase in profit of the industry. Recently the company announced that it is planning to lift the 40 minutes video conference limit on its platform for even non-paying users. It will allow free video calls without the 40 minute limit on ‘Thanksgiving Day’ in the United States. The Thanksgiving festival will be celebrated on 26 November in the US.

It also announced that to let families spend more time virtually for Thanksgiving Day, the company is launching the new feature. The forty-minute time limit has been one of the major restrictions throughout the coronavirus pandemic. It has forced many group meetings to restart the calls after the time limit comes to an end or migrate to other platforms.

Other platforms that rival Zoom also have similar time-limits in place. However, Google Meet has a limit of 60-minutes, and the tech company also charges a fee for enterprise-grade plans that remove the limit and expand the number of participants allowed.

The demand for video conferencing apps is steadily increasing. With Google and Microsoft’s likes increasing its features, it is only viable that Zoom is also trying to add new features to increase its subscribers.
