Marseille have sacked their head coach, Gennaro Gattuso, with immediate effect. The Italian will be replaced by former Ivory Coast manager Jean-Louis Gasset, who was dismissed in the middle of AFCON 2024. Ivory Coast went on to defy all odds and win the tournament under the management of Emerse Fae, in what was his first senior role. 

Gasset previously served as the assistant manager to Laurent Blanc at PSG, he also managed Montpellier, Saint Etienne and Bordeaux. He will sign a contract until the end of the season, and will only be an interim appointment, as Marseille want a permanent head coach appointed in the summer.

Earlier there were news that the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in the later months of 2024. However, now we are hearing that it has been delayed to the early months of 2025. 

This is a bit of disappointment for the players who were waiting for this one of the most anticipated gaming consoles. But once again this news is not from the official announcement but from sources. 

While talking with Eurogamer, Bloomberg, and VGC, sources claimed that Nintendo has been talking with game publishers that the Nintendo Switch 2 was originally planned to be launched during the late months of 2024. However, there is a change and now the gaming console has slipped to the early months of 2025, in March at that. 

Till now we don’t know to what extent it’s true, however, if that’s the case then it will be an exciting year for the predecessor of the expected gaming console. Talking about the original Nintendo Switch has recently passed 139. 36 million units sold. 

About the games, we know that it is standing on the first-party front and we know just a few titles launching this year on Switch. 

These are Princess Peach: Showtime, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake, and Luigui’s Mansion 2 HD. In short, we can say the year is going to be big for Nintendo Switch as it prepares for some major remasters and remakes. 

Also, it is preparing some new entries of its huge and beloved franchises for the Nintendo Switch 2. 

As Serkan Toto, a Tokyo-based analyst told Bloomberg, “Nintendo is likely looking at a pretty dry pipeline this year. The company will still try to keep the blockbusters for the next console, so 2024 might see more remakes of old Nintendo hits. In any case, 2024 will be a lot tougher for Nintendo without a new device.”

Luis Suarez has opened up on a possible transfer to Real Madrid, back when he was playing for Liverpool in 2014. The striker revealed that Los Blancos were in the race to sign him alongside Barcelona that year. Madrid were pushing to sign him and reportedly wanted to offload Karim Benzema to get the Uruguayan. 

At the time, Suarez was the best striker in the Premier League, coming on the back of a season where he won the European Golden Shoe and PFA Players’ Player of the Year campaign in which he bagged a thoroughly impressive 31 goals in 33 Premier League appearances.

“Before the 2014 World Cup, Real Madrid wanted me as they wanted to sell Benzema to Arsenal. Barcelona at the time was [also] interested and Luis Enrique was pressing,” admitted Suarez.

“The bite case happened and Barcelona continued to want to sign me despite the punishment. I will always be grateful for that,” he continued.

In the 2014 World Cup, Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini of Italy, which led to FIFA banning him for four months. Madrid dropped out of the race and stick with Benzema, which proved to be the right decision in the long run. And so did Suarez’s £65 million transfer to Barcelona. 

He went on to form the incredible MSN partnership alongside Messi and Neymar, winning the 2014/15 Champions League. On the other hand, Karim Benzema won the Ballon d’or with Los Blancos, emerging as one of their best strikers ever at the end of his spell with them. He won five Champions League titles in the famous white shirt and finished as one of the top scorers in their history. 

While Suarez is reunited with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami now, Benzema is playing in Al Ittihad as part of the ambitious project in the Saudi Pro League.

Kylian Mbappe has reportedly agreed to the contract offered to him by Real Madrid. The PSG star has told the president, Nasser Al Khelaifi, that he will be leaving at the end of the season. And reports now suggest that he has an agreement in place with Los Blancos over the contract details. 

The player will receive a signing bonus worth €50 million, close to what he was supposed to receive with PSG as a loyalty bonus. But, he turned down the payment as he was set to leave the club and wanted to part ways on good terms, having spent six years with them.

Last time Real Madrid tried to sign the player, they had made a huge contract offer to him. But this time around, the wage offered to him is significantly lower than what was offered. It is lower than his current wage at PSG too, but the signing bonus should offset that amount given Madrid need to maintain their wage structure amidst difficult restrictions imposed by LaLiga. 

However, an official announcement will only be made later in the season when the move is close to being completed for sure. Madrid fans will be wary of believing any transfer news involving Mbappe until they see him holding up the white shirt with Florentino Perez. 

Marca reports that Kylian Mbappe’s contract with Madrid will be five years long, until 2029. The contract will pay the player a salary close that of their existing highest earners such as Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and David Alaba at €15 and 20 million net per year plus bonus for objectives. 

Right now, he is earning €32 million net per season after taxes. Moreover, his earnings through image rights could also be lower with the presence of already established stars like Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham already at the club.

Manchester United are soon set to appoint a new sporting director in Dan Ashworth, and they might look towards Chelsea chief scout Kyle Macaulay as a potential recruit. The analyst joined the Blues when they signed Graham Potter as their new coach after sacking Thomas Tuchel, and has remained with them even though Potter is long gone. 

Ashworth’s appointment has not been confirmed yet but is soon set to be made official once he has an agreement with Newcastle United over the details of the severance. He will be the first major change following the confirmation of Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in Manchester United.

United would be a significant step up from the project at Newcastle, where the pressure to win and deliver silverware is much higher. Moreover, manager Eddie Howe is rather worried that Ashworth’s departure could cause problems at his club because of the director’s knowledge of the inner workings of the team. 

With Ashworth now placed on gardening leave, it seems only a matter of time before his move to Manchester United is announced. The arrival of a sporting director at Old Trafford is great news, considering the alarming failure of several transfer targets. 

Erik Ten Hag will now be tasked with working alongside the new sporting director to build his squad further. Moreover, a data analyst expert like Kyle Macaulay could help the club make data-driven transfers that will help the club on the pitch.
