“Overdo”: A Republican-Era Shanghai Romance Full Of Secrets And Second Chances

If tragic love stories set against a backdrop of old-world glamour are your thing, the newly premiered C-drama “Overdo” just landed on Viki — and it’s already shaping up to be a slow-burn favorite.

Overdo: A Love Story Built On Loss And Return

Set in Republican-era Shanghai, “Overdo” follows Murong Qing Yi (Zhang Ling He), the youngest son of a powerful warlord carrying deep scars from a traumatic childhood. His life changes when the courageous Ren Su Su (Wang Chu Ran) saves him during a harrowing escape — but tragedy soon tears them apart, forcing Su Su to fake her own death to protect the people she loves.

The Twist That Changes Everything

Three years later, Su Su resurfaces — this time as Fang Mu Lan, Qing Yi’s prospective sister-in-law. With a national crisis looming, the two are forced to work together, unraveling old secrets while navigating their complicated, disguised reunion. It’s the kind of premise that blends period drama grandeur with a genuinely emotional love story.

The first four episodes are now streaming with subtitles, giving viewers a solid start to sink their teeth into.
