“OM Chapter 1” Doesn’t Mean “To Be Continued”: Dhanush and Mammootty’s Film Ends Where It Begins

Seeing “Chapter 1” in a title usually makes fans start counting sequels. Director Rajkumar Periasamy wants you to stop. In a recent chat, he made clear that OM Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood is not a serialized story, and the narrative wraps up within this film.

OM Chapter 1: Overview

The Director’s Message

Speaking to Tamil media outlet Dinamalar, Rajkumar Periasamy said the “Chapter 1” label shouldn’t make audiences expect an OM 2, and the story will end fully within this chapter. The film is part of a planned duology, yet each part stands on its own.

What Is the Story About?

According to the director, the plot follows several characters who are linked together by a particular cause. What the cause is, and why these people come together, forms the story. He compares the structure to a tree with many branches and sub-branches. He also says that while OM is an action drama and an emotional film, it can’t be narrowly labeled a “gangster” film. For background on the lead, see Dhanush on Wikipedia.

The Characters

• Mammootty’s role draws inspiration from the migrant American characters in Martin Scorsese’s films, moving beyond the usual image of an underworld don.
• Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela play roles that take them beyond their familiar on-screen personas. Sai Pallavi’s character has been reported as Nithya Reddy.

Why the Date Changed

The film was first set for October 16, 2026, then postponed. Dhanush confirmed the change, which reportedly helps avoid a box-office clash with Jailer 2 and Suriya’s Scene, both set for November 2026.
