Ohh My Dog Review: Two Dogs, One Big Lesson in Loyalty

Some stories don’t need humans to be the heroes. Ohh My Dog, starring Pankaj Tripathi, hands that role to two dogs — and honestly, they earn it. Directed by Amit Rai, the film is a heartfelt reminder that loyalty, courage, and compassion often come more naturally to animals than to us.

Here’s whether this family entertainer is worth your theater ticket.

Ohh My Dog Review Card

The Story

Ohh My Dog weaves two parallel tales set in contrasting landscapes. In Assam, young Appu is devastated when his dog Momo mysteriously vanishes, pushing him into a determined search that uncovers a darker truth. Meanwhile, in Bihar, a loyal dog named Oscar begins his own mission after his caretaker Prince disappears without explanation. The two stories never intersect, but they mirror each other beautifully — both built around the same idea: love and loyalty don’t need words to be powerful.

What Works

The film’s biggest strength is its restraint. Instead of leaning on melodrama, director Amit Rai keeps things grounded and family-friendly, letting the emotional bond between humans and dogs carry the story. Oscar and Momo aren’t reduced to comic relief — they’re treated as genuine characters whose intelligence and loyalty drive the plot forward. The emotional beats land because they feel earned rather than manufactured, and the cinematography captures both Assam and Bihar’s natural beauty without ever overshadowing the story’s intimacy.

What Doesn’t Work

Despite its heartfelt core, the film struggles with pacing. At nearly two-and-a-half hours, it feels noticeably stretched, and trimming it down to two hours would have made for a tighter, more gripping watch. The screenplay also follows a fairly predictable path, with several plot developments easy to see coming well in advance. Some sequences repeat emotional beats that have already been established, adding to the sense of drag.

Performances

Maahi Rai delivers a genuinely impressive performance as Appu, balancing innocence with real emotional weight. Pankaj Tripathi brings his signature warmth to the film, grounding even the quieter scenes with quiet gravitas. Pavan Malhotra remains dependable as always, while Rajesh Kumar adds tension in a negative role, and Geeta Agrawal Sharma leaves a mark as Appu’s vulnerable mother.

But the real scene-stealers are Oscar and Momo themselves. Their expressive performances make every reunion and chase feel believable, and they easily become the film’s biggest asset — proof that dogs have long earned their reputation as humanity’s most loyal companions, on screen and off.

Final Verdict

Ohh My Dog is a sincere, feel-good family drama that avoids unnecessary theatrics in favor of genuine emotion. While the pacing drags in the second half, strong performances — especially from the two canine leads — keep it engaging throughout. If you’re an animal lover looking for a warm, heartfelt watch, this one’s worth your time.
