“Oh! My Guard”: A Heiress Who Thinks She’s a Bodyguard Is K-Drama’s Wildest New Rom-Com

What if the biggest fan of an A-list actor woke up convinced she was a character in his drama? That’s the delightfully chaotic premise of Oh! My Guard, and the new teaser has fans grinning already.

The Plot, Simply Put

Uhm Tae Bong (CNBLUE’s Jung Yong Hwa) is a top actor with a fatal flaw. Oh Hae Ra (Hong Seung Hee) is a chaebol heiress and his devoted fan, with a bedroom full of his photos and merchandise. She even dreams of loving someone in real life the way people do in dramas.

Then a car accident wipes her memory. She wakes up believing she is Cha Hong Doo, the combat-skilled bodyguard from one of his dramas, and sets out to protect him, even storming his set to fight off imaginary threats.

Oh! My Guard: Overview

What the Teaser Reveals?

Tae Bong’s first reaction is pure confusion, then horror, as he realises she truly believes her new identity. He quickly finds himself with a very enthusiastic shadow. Soon, people around them decide to humour her delusion for the time being. One incredulous voice asks whether this is some kind of Truman Show, and whether they’re really expected to shoot a drama just for her.

The teaser closes with hints of romance blooming, with Tae Bong admitting he has no idea why he’s acting the way he is.

Why You Should Watch?

It’s a fresh twist on the fake-it-till-you-make-it trope. You get a fan-meets-idol story, a heroine who is both vulnerable and hilariously fearless, and a leading man forced out of his comfort zone. Add the charm of Jung Yong Hwa and Hong Seung Hee, and the chemistry could carry the whole show.
