NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Pricing Rumors: Experts Suggest Minimal Increase Over RTX 4090 Amid Speculation

According to Kopite7kimi, in response to recent rumors, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 GPU isn’t expected to ring up for too much more than the RTX 4090. The RTX 5090 will be an entry in the next-gen of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 ‘Blackwell’ GPU lineup, which is due to launch at CES 2025.

Novabench has already shared what it claims to be RTX 5090 top-tier config — up to 32 GB of VRAM and over 21K cores. But they also raised the question of potential price bumps and hype over innovative features.

More About the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Pricing

Earlier this year, there were rumors that the GeForce RTX 5090 was going to cost $2500 and the RTX 5080 might be priced over $1000. The rumors claim no official or even expected pricing information has been given to an AIB or partner so take those estimates as completely unofficial. NVIDIA is briefing its partners on SKUs, configurations, and specs, and no confirmed prices.

During this time, AIBs and partners would begin the work of using NVIDIA’s blueprints to design unique PCBs as well as implement their cooling solutions on top. Usually, final pricing comes when the product is a few days away from launch so that NVIDIA can establish its MSRPs.

The MSRP is obviously the big one, as newer GPUs are targeted at those models for NVIDIA’s Founders Edition designs and initial reviews. AIBs also can go to town with their custom PCB designs to varying extents on non-MSRP models, and do all sorts of elaborate innovative cooling.

A Taiwanese factory that makes cooling equipment for NVIDIA claims the company has at least eight coolers destined to ship with its reference “FE” models, though it’s unknown if these are production-final or still in prototype form.

But with this latest story, Kopite7kimi is now casting doubt that the RTX 5090 will see much more of an increase over what we already have at an MSRP of $1599 for the flagship, which currently retails around $1800+. The RTX 4090 is also expected to be discontinued soon to make way for newer models. As we enter the tail end of 2024, most AIBs are clearing their RTX 40 inventory which points to good discounts around the holiday season for both, especially the top two SKUs.

While pricing rumors should be cautiously approached, the last significant price hike for an ultra-enthusiast card, such as the “90” series, occurred with the RTX 3090, priced at $1500, while the “Ti” variant launched at $1999.

Although the RTX 4090 proved to be 60-80% faster than the RTX 3090 Ti, it only saw a $100 increase over its predecessor. Whether the RTX 5090 will maintain the same $1599 price point or see a similar bump remains uncertain. Gamers and those interested in the RTX 5090 are advised to wait for official pricing confirmation.
