Nothing OS 3.0: What to Expect from the Upcoming Update

From a simple Android UI, Nothing OS has grown into its unique and comprehensive interface. Nothing OS 3.0 based on Android 15 will follow the success of Nothing OS 2.5. So, what can we expect from the new update when it goes live in the next few months?

All About the Nothing OS 3.0 and Supported Devices

The company launched Nothing OS 2.5 for the Phone in December 2023, following Android 14 being made available. Nothing OS 3.0 will then launch around October of 2024, which is when Android 15 should have been out for a little bit by that stage anyway. The update is currently available as closed Beta giving early impressions of the new features coming with this latest version. All Nothing phones released to date are eligible for the Nothing OS 3.0 update, including:

• Nothing Phone (2a)
• Nothing Phone (2)
• Nothing Phone (1)
• CMF Phone 1

The Nothing Phone (2a) models are expected to receive the update first, followed by the Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1, with the Phone (1) likely getting it in December 2024 or January 2025.

Confirmed and Expected Features

Enhanced Lock Screen Customizations

Expect new clock styles and widget options, including Dynamic Clock which adjusts based on notifications and widgets. The design will echo recent trends seen in Apple’s lock screens.

Redesigned Quick Settings Panel

The Quick Settings panel will receive a cleaner design with customizable tile sizes and improved aesthetics, including smaller tiles and gradient effects.

New Fingerprint and Boot Animations

Updated fingerprint unlock and boot animations will feature more dynamic visuals.

Revamped Settings App

The Settings app will have a more segmented layout and a switch to Roboto font for improved readability.

Charging Assistant and Device Diagnostics

New features will include a Charging Assistant for monitoring charging speeds and Device Diagnostics for tracking battery health and cycles.

Interactive Dot Animations

App icons and widgets may feature new interactive animations for a more dynamic user experience.

Community, Dialer, Contacts, and Gallery Apps

New standalone apps for Gallery and Community, along with updates to Dialer and Contacts, are expected.
