Nike has announced the launch of the Pegasus Plus 2, a new tempo training shoe designed to integrate race-day speed into everyday running. This latest model in the Pegasus series incorporates a visible Air Zoom unit and ZoomX foam, aiming to provide a responsive and propulsive experience for runners.
The Pegasus Plus 2 is engineered to deliver a lighter and smoother ride, with Nike stating it assists runners in achieving increased speed, endurance, and versatility across various run types.

Nike Core Technology and Design
Central to the Pegasus Plus 2’s design is an exposed, curved Air Zoom unit in the forefoot, paired with a ZoomX foam midsole. According to Nike, this combination enhances energy return by at least 18 percent compared to its predecessor, the original Pegasus Plus, contributing to a smoother and more powerful stride.
Deepa Ramprasad, Senior Director of Nike Running Footwear, elaborated on the development. “Our goal was simple: speed without sacrifice,” Ramprasad stated. “We spent years refining every element of this system, providing precisely what a runner needs to feel fast, comfortable, and confident in pushing their pace. This represents a significant evolution for the Pegasus franchise, bringing race-day sensations into a daily trainer.”

The shoe draws inspiration from Nike’s road racing footwear, designed to offer a comparable smooth and powerful feel without incorporating a plate. The curved Air Zoom unit is intended to facilitate a natural transition between steps, while internal tensile fibers aim to maximize energy return.
Fit and Athlete Feedback
The Pegasus Plus 2 features a refined MR10 2.0 last, a design element first seen in the Pegasus 42, which provides a more accommodating forefoot and toe box. A midfoot system is integrated to ensure a secure yet flexible fit. Additional design components include elevated materials around the ankle, reflective elements, and a modern waffle outsole with flex zones, engineered to deliver a light and connected feel on the road.
Cameron Myers, a Nike athlete and world leader in the 1,500 meters, offered his perspective on the shoe. “I love a run where I’m locked in but still enjoying every step,” Myers commented. “That’s the feeling I get from this shoe. Easy, fast, smooth. It just flows.” The shoe reportedly underwent testing by over 30 elite Nike athletes across multiple disciplines. The Nike Sport Research Lab conducted extensive evaluations to inform the design, with the Air Zoom unit featuring precise pressure tuning and construction adapted across sizes for consistent performance.
