Netflix’s First Doctor Is the Emotional Medical K-Drama You Didn’t Know You Were Waiting For

Netflix is doubling down on medical K-dramas — and First Doctor might just be the most heartfelt one yet. With a stellar cast now confirmed and cameras rolling, here’s everything you need to know about this deeply human new series.

First Doctor — Key Details

What Is First Doctor About?

Set in a pediatric surgery department of a university hospital teetering on the edge of closure, First Doctor follows dedicated doctors fighting to keep their ward alive amid a population crisis. Each doctor takes on a child’s very first surgery — and in doing so, becomes their first trusted adult. It’s medicine meets emotional storytelling at its rawest.

The Cast That Makes This a Must-Watch

All five leads are now confirmed, and the ensemble is genuinely exciting:

• Jung Ryeo Won as Heo Ji Wan — a pediatric surgeon who hides warmth beneath a tough exterior
• Ha Yoon Kyoung as Ki Eun Gyeol — known for Hospital Playlist and Extraordinary Attorney Woo
• Kim Mu Yeol as Bae Su Wol — a Netflix veteran from Sweet Home and Queen Woo
• Bek Hyun Jin as Son Sang Baek — seen in Goodbye Earth and The Good Bad Mother
• Kim Jong Soo as Lee Chang Gon — recently in Teach You a Lesson and Kingdom

The table read is complete, and filming has officially kicked off — a great sign of momentum.

When Can We Watch It?

No official release date yet, but with filming now underway, a late 2027 or early 2028 Netflix premiere is the most realistic expectation.
