You’ve opened Netflix, scrolled for 20 minutes and watched nothing. Netflix knows. Its new experiment, AI Discover, is built to fix exactly that, and it doesn’t involve typing a single word.

How It Works?
Netflix calls AI Discover its “test kitchen,” a space to try discovery ideas and see what sticks, per What’s on Netflix. Instead of a search box, you pick from themes, each previewed with a clip. Themes can reflect your mood (“Something Light,” “Scare Me”), who you’re watching with (“Family Movie Night”) or your time (“Quick Watches”). Pick one and you see matching titles, plus more specific themes to narrow things down. If nothing appeals, “Something Different” serves a fresh set.
Tune Your Recommendations
The most practical addition may be a new “Tune Your Recommendations” button, next to “Play” and “My List” on every title. You can keep a suggestion or tell Netflix not to recommend it again. Netflix says it remembers that choice within AI Discover, and it will ask whether you’re not interested or have already seen the title.

What It Can’t Do Yet?
There’s no chatbot. You can’t type “a Nordic crime show with a romantic vibe” in this first version, partly because typing on a TV is awkward. Netflix has described plans to improve search with voice and natural-language features, but nothing is announced for TV. It also said your AI Discover choices won’t inform its content decisions, because this is purely about recommendations.
Who Gets It and When?
The rollout starts in the US, with more members joining over the coming weeks. Netflix says it has nothing to share yet on mobile, other languages or other countries, so Indian viewers shouldn’t expect it soon. Netflix is also testing a left-hand navigation layout on TVs, and more tests are planned through the end of the year.
Our Take
Netflix is testing this in a separate tab rather than changing the whole homepage, which is a sensible, low-risk approach. Whether AI features are welcomed or criticised is still an open question, so the reaction will be worth watching.
