NCT’s Enlistment Details at a Glance

Understanding Their Military Assignments

Both members will begin their service on the same day—December 8, 2025—but will serve in different capacities, reflecting South Korea’s diverse military placement system.

Doyoung’s Active Duty Service: As an active duty Army soldier, Doyoung will undergo standard military training and service. This typically involves approximately 18 months of service, including basic training followed by assignment to a military unit. Active duty soldiers participate in regular military operations, training exercises, and base duties.

Jungwoo’s Army Band Assignment: Jungwoo received acceptance notification for the Army Band, a specialized position that combines military service with musical duties. Army Band members perform at military ceremonies, events, and official functions while maintaining their military responsibilities. This assignment recognizes Jungwoo’s musical talents while allowing him to serve his country.

SM Entertainment’s Official Statement

The agency released a heartfelt statement confirming the enlistment details while establishing important guidelines for fans. Most notably, SM Entertainment explicitly requested that fans refrain from visiting enlistment sites, citing safety concerns and respect for other soldiers and their families who will be present.

This request aligns with growing awareness in the K-pop industry about maintaining appropriate boundaries during sensitive personal moments. The agency emphasized their hope that both members can “diligently carry out their military service and return in even better health.”

NCT’s Military Service Timeline

Doyoung and Jungwoo join a growing list of NCT members fulfilling their mandatory obligations:

1. Taeyong – Previously enlisted
2. Jaehyun – Currently serving
3. Doyoung – Enlisting December 8, 2025
4. Jungwoo – Enlisting December 8, 2025

As NCT is a large, multi-unit group with members born across different years, fans can expect additional enlistment announcements in the coming years. The staggered approach allows NCT’s various sub-units to continue activities while members fulfill their service.

What This Means for NCT Activities

While losing two talented vocalists temporarily impacts NCT’s lineup, the group’s multi-unit structure provides flexibility. NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV can adjust their activities accordingly, with younger members taking more prominent roles during this transition period.

Both Doyoung and Jungwoo have been incredibly active before enlistment. Doyoung recently appeared in the drama “Dear X Who Doesn’t Love Me,” showcasing his acting abilities beyond music. Fans can watch his performance on Viki while awaiting his return.

A Message to NCTzens

Military enlistment represents a bittersweet milestone in every male K-pop idol’s career. While fans will miss Doyoung and Jungwoo’s presence in performances, variety shows, and social media interactions, this temporary absence allows both artists to fulfill an important civic duty and return with renewed energy.

The 18-month service period may feel long, but NCTzens have shown remarkable patience and loyalty during previous member enlistments. Both Doyoung and Jungwoo will undoubtedly feel fan support throughout their service and return to enthusiastic welcomes.

Preparing for Their Return

Historical precedent shows that idols often return from military service with greater maturity, broader perspectives, and renewed passion for their craft. Fans can look forward to:

• New Music: Post-enlistment releases often showcase artistic growth
• Enhanced Performance: Physical training during service can improve stage presence
• Deeper Connection: Shared experiences during service create stronger bonds with fans

Until December 8, fans can support both members by streaming their music, watching their content, and sending positive messages. After enlistment, patient waiting and enthusiastic anticipation will carry us through until their safe return.

Wishing Doyoung and Jungwoo a safe and healthy military service. We’ll be here waiting when you return!
