A centuries-old Joseon villainess. A 2026 home shopping channel. And somehow, she is thriving. My Royal Nemesis just had its premiere, and Episode 2 already promises to double the chaos, the charm, and the laughs.
What Is My Royal Nemesis?
SBS’s My Royal Nemesis is a new romantic comedy starring Lim Ji Yeon as Shin Seo Ri, a struggling actress who is suddenly possessed by the spirit of a notorious villainess from the Joseon era. Heo Nam Jun stars as Cha Se Gye, a ruthless chaebol heir known as a “monster created by capitalism.”
It’s the kind of only-in-K-drama premise that sounds outrageous on paper and somehow ends up being completely irresistible on screen.

What Happened in Episode 1
On the first episode, Shin Seo Ri made up her mind to survive in the modern day after unexpectedly waking up in 2026. After singling out Cha Se Gye as someone powerful enough to protect her as her personal “spear and shield,” she approached him for help — and even managed to save his life when she instinctively sensed murderous intent aimed at him.
A Joseon spirit with threat-detection instincts sharp enough to protect a billionaire? She is already running circles around the modern world.
Episode 2 Preview: She Doesn’t Need Anyone’s Help
In newly released stills from Episode 2, Shin Seo Ri appears to have already adapted to life in modern-day Korea entirely on her own. She is seen hiding behind a sofa lying in wait for Se Gye, having somehow managed to slip past his ironclad security detail. Later, she takes on a part-time job as a home shopping model, her eyes wide in front of a mouthwatering spread of food.
A villainess who outsmarted Joseon court politics is now outsmarting a chaebol’s security team and selling products on live TV — the fish out of water comedy practically writes itself, and Lim Ji Yeon looks like she was born for this role.
