Logitech’s latest computer accessories provide a quieter or more tactile approach to operating your computer. The MX Master 3S mouse is a small upgrade to the MX Master 3 mouse, having a quieter mouse click and a more sensitive sensor.
Meanwhile, the MX Mechanical and MX Mechanical Mini are two keyboards with mechanical switches that should make them a more tactile (albeit slightly louder) alternative to the company’s existing MX Keys devices. For $169.99, $149.99, and $99, the MX Mechanical, MX Mechanical Mini, and MX Master 3S will be available this month.
The MX Master 3S looks remarkably similar to the MX Master 3 it’ll be replacing in Logitech’s portfolio. It has a sculpted right-handed design, two scroll wheels (one for up/down, the other for left/right), and three thumb buttons. The main differences are that it now has an 8,000 DPI sensor, up from 4,000 the previous time, and the left and right mouse buttons are now 90 per cent quieter, according to Logitech. When you click the mouse, you still get a tactile bump, but it’s much quieter, almost like hitting a Cherry MX Brown switch rather than an MX Blue switch.
MX Master 3S is designed for productivity rather than gaming
Despite the higher-resolution sensor, this is a mouse designed for office and productivity tasks rather than gaming, thanks to the 125Hz polling rate. Gaming mice, on the other hand, poll at 1,000Hz or even 8,000Hz in some circumstances.
The MX Master 3S’s higher DPI sensor, according to Logitech, should aid with the increasingly high-resolution displays that people are using with their PCs, such as 4K and even 8K, while the quieter click should benefit anyone using the mouse in a shared office situation. I prefer the tactile feel of a louder click, but I understand Logitech’s point of view. However, because the MX Master 3S will be replacing the MX Master 3 in Logitech’s mouse portfolio, aficionados of loud mouse clicks may need to act quickly to secure one of the older models before they are no longer available.
The new MX Mechanical keyboards are the polar opposite of the MX Master 3S, which is geared at consumers who value silence above tactility. Previously, the MX Keys and MX Keys Mini keyboards in Logitech’s productivity-focused MX series had silent, mushy-feeling laptop-style keys. However, Logitech uses additional mechanical switches in the MX Mechanical, which will be available alongside the MX Keys in the lineup.
They’re employing Kailh’s Choc V2 switches, which come in a variety of tactile quiet brown, clicky blue, and linear red forms. Due to their compact profile, these switches do not have the same amount of travel as full-height Cherry MX switches. If you’re more used to typing on a laptop keyboard, you’ll be completely at home here. They have some of the advantages of mechanical switches, such as a more tactile feel and improved reliability, despite their thin profile.
Both keyboards are wireless, and Logitech’s legendary long battery life is on display. With the keyboard’s backlighting on, you may get 15 days of battery life, or up to 10 months if you turn it off. The keyboard has sensors that switch on the backlighting when your hands are close by, and a USB-C connector handles recharging when the battery runs out. Both the keyboard and mouse can recall three devices they’re connected to (through Bluetooth or a USB wireless adaptor provided) and switch between them with a single button click.
