Mazhavillaye: The Song That Slows Down Before I’m Game Speeds Up

Just when you thought Dulquer Salmaan’s I’m Game was all chaos and swagger, the makers hit pause for a love song. The film’s first single, Mazhavillaye, dropped ahead of its Onam release, and it’s doing exactly what a good first single should — making you fall for the film before you’ve even seen it.

What’s Mazhavillaye All About?

Sung by Armaan Malik and composed by Jakes Bejoy, with lyrics penned by Shrafu, Mazhavillaye is a breezy, romantic track built around DQ and Kayadu Lohar’s characters. In a film that’s otherwise packed with slick action and an “unhinged energy,” this song plays the quieter card — establishing the emotional core of lead character Dan John before his world spirals out of control.

The Story Behind the Song

Mazhavillaye isn’t just filler music — it does narrative heavy lifting. The track appears to build the personal, romantic thread in Dan John’s life, a man who lives on the edge and bets his fortunes on an algorithm rather than luck. Before things go wrong for him, this song gives audiences a glimpse of what he stands to lose. Adding weight to the moment, veteran actress Jayasudha and filmmaker Shyamaprasad also make appearances, likely portraying the protagonist’s parents.

Why I’m Game Is One of Onam’s Most-Watched Releases

Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, I’m Game marks Dulquer Salmaan’s much-awaited Malayalam homecoming, and the trailer has already stirred excitement with its stylish visuals and high-energy tone. The film follows Dan John, whose easy-money lifestyle collapses once his algorithm-based betting system turns against him.

Beyond Dulquer and Kayadu Lohar, the cast includes Antony Varghese Pepe, Kathir, Mysskin, Samyuktha, and Vinay Forrt. With its August 20 release landing right in the middle of Onam celebrations, the film is set for a high-stakes box-office face-off with Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Khalifa: Part 1 and Nivin Pauly’s Bethlehem Kudumba Unit — making this one of Malayalam cinema’s most competitive festive weekends in recent memory. Onam itself remains one of Kerala’s most significant harvest festivals, traditionally marked by a wave of big theatrical releases.

What’s Next for Dulquer Salmaan

Post I’m Game, Dulquer has a packed slate lined up. He’ll next headline Aakasamlo Oka Tara, directed by Pavan Sadineni, co-starring Satvika Veeravalli and Shruti Haasan. Further down the line is Sri Sri, opposite Pooja Hegde, directed by Ravi Nelakuditi, with music by GV Prakash Kumar — whose first single was unveiled on Dulquer’s birthday.

Final Word

With Mazhavillaye setting an emotional tone and the trailer already promising a wild, stylish ride, I’m Game looks primed to be one of the standout Onam releases of 2026. Whether the algorithm-vs-fate story lands as hard as its music does, we’ll find out on August 20.
