Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (2026): The Horror Reimagining That Could Change Everything — Release Date, Cast & What to Expect

Forget Tom Cruise’s misfire. Forget the Dark Universe. The Mummy is coming back — and this time, it’s in the hands of the director who gave us Evil Dead Rise, with James Wan and Jason Blum producing. Horror fans, it’s time to pay attention.

The Mummy: Key Details

The Mummy: Cast

Jack Reynor plays a journalist named Charlie Cannon, with Laia Costa as his wife. Natalie Grace plays Charlie’s missing daughter Katie, with Shylo Molina and Billie Roy playing her siblings. The cast also includes May Calamawy and Verónica Falcón. Rotten Tomatoes

Early reviews are especially strong around Natalie Grace’s performance, with critics describing it as chilling and deeply unsettling. That’s a name to watch.

What Is the Plot?

The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace — eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare. Wikipedia

This is not your classic bandaged-villain story. Cronin is taking The Mummy mythology and grounding it in family horror — something closer to Hereditary or Poltergeist than anything we’ve seen from this franchise before.

Why This One Feels Different

Cronin said, “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.” Rotten Tomatoes

He also brings back his Evil Dead Rise core crew — cinematographer David Garbett, composer Stephen McKeon, and editor Bryan Shaw — which means the visual language and dread-building style fans loved will carry over. The film tells an original standalone story with no confirmed connections to previous Mummy iterations, including the beloved Brendan Fraser trilogy or the failed 2017 Tom Cruise reboot. Rotten Tomatoes

Initial responses for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy are highly positive, with the film emerging as potentially one of the most unsettling horror movies of 2026. Koimoi
