French cinema’s busiest multi-hyphenate is back at Netflix — and this time she’s bringing a story that sounds every bit as gripping as her past work. Mélanie Laurent, fresh off directing 2023’s “Wingwomen,” has been quietly filming her new original series “La Grande,” and the details that just emerged are worth paying attention to.

What Is La Grande About?

At its core, this is a story about survival and sisterhood. The official logline follows Tara, who returns seven years after escaping a toxic household to rescue her younger sister Callista from their manipulative mother, Karen. Described as “a gripping epic about the healing power of love,” the series is loosely inspired by real events — which instantly raises the emotional stakes.

Meet the Cast Carrying This Story

Marina Hands, a César Award winner known for “Lady Chatterley,” is set to play the antagonist mother, Karen — a role that demands both charm and menace. Opposite her is rising star Marie Colomb, who won a Rising Star Award at Canneséries in 2025 and has built serious credibility through roles in “Laetitia” and “Culte.” Together, this pairing suggests a series built on powerful, layered performances rather than plot twists alone.

Why Mélanie Laurent Keeps Getting Bigger Projects

It’s worth noting just how packed Laurent’s schedule has become. Between fronting Apple TV+’s “The Hunt,” directing two Prime Video films, and now helming this Netflix miniseries, she’s proven herself as one of French entertainment’s most versatile forces. (cite index=”41-1″>Mélanie Laurent is a French actress, filmmaker, and singer internationally known for roles in Inglourious Basterds, Now You See Me, and 6 Underground.</cite> That range — moving fluidly between acting, directing, and now anchoring streaming originals — is exactly why platforms keep calling her back.

Why This Project Matters

Unlike ongoing series, “La Grande” is confirmed as a miniseries, meaning there’s a complete, contained story here — no cliffhangers designed to stretch across multiple seasons. For viewers who enjoy character-driven European dramas with real emotional weight, this looks like one to watch closely as 2027 approaches.

Final Thoughts

With no confirmed release date yet beyond “late 2027,” there’s plenty of time for more details to surface. But between Laurent’s directorial pedigree and a genuinely compelling premise, “La Grande” already feels like one of Netflix’s more promising international originals in the pipeline.
