The Housemaid’s Secret Plot and Narrative
The Housemaid’s Secret follows Millie as she accepts a new housekeeping position with the Garrick family, who live in a luxurious city penthouse. However, Millie is explicitly told she is never allowed to see her new employer, Mrs. Garrick. This mysterious restriction immediately raises Millie’s suspicions, prompting her to investigate the household’s dark secrets.
The story takes an unsettling turn when Millie discovers evidence suggesting Mrs. Garrick is being abused and hidden away under the pretense of illness. Drawing on her experience from the first film, Millie uses her resourcefulness to uncover the truth behind the locked door—secrets that threaten to expose dangers far darker than anyone anticipated. The premise sets up an intense psychological thriller where nothing is as it appears, and trust becomes a dangerous luxury.
Lionsgate’s Confidence in the Franchise
Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Erin Westerman expressed enthusiasm about Dunst’s casting: “It is a privilege to bring The Housemaid’s next chapter to the screen with Kirsten Dunst. She is an icon. Her career reflects extraordinary range and fearlessness. Opposite the ever-magnetic Sydney Sweeney, she will be an electrifying force in a world where nothing is ever quite as it seems.“
Director Paul Feig added his perspective, stating: “It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew. We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences.”
Kirsten Dunst’s Recent Career and Projects
Dunst is coming off critically acclaimed performances in The Power of the Dog, Civil War, and Roofman. Her casting in The Housemaid’s Secret marks her commitment to high-profile sequels, as she’s also signed on to star in Minecraft 2, which is also filming in 2026. This positions Dunst as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actresses for major franchise continuations.
