Three episodes in, and Perfect Crown is already ruling the airwaves. The royal romance K-drama starring IU and Byeon Woo Seok didn’t just perform well on Friday night — it topped every single show on Korean television. And that’s not a small deal.

Perfect Crown Numbers Tell the Story

On April 17, MBC’s Perfect Crown maintained strong viewership for its third episode, scoring an average nationwide rating of 9.0 percent — the highest of any show to air that day, according to Nielsen Korea.

Perfect Crown was also the most-watched show of Friday among the key demographic of viewers ages 20 to 54, earning an average rating of 4.6 percent in that group.

Topping both the general audience and the coveted 20–54 age bracket simultaneously is the kind of performance that signals a genuine hit, not just a flash-in-the-pan premiere boost.

Perfect Crown	MBC	9.0% ✅	4.6% ✅
Phantom Lawyer	SBS	6.5%	—

Why Perfect Crown Has All of Korea Watching?

The drama’s premise is as compelling as its cast. Set in an alternate universe where modern-day Korea is a constitutional monarchy, Perfect Crown follows Seong Hui Ju (IU), a chaebol heiress with everything except royal status, and Grand Prince Ian (Byeon Woo Seok), a prince with a title but no power. The tension between them — romantic, political, and deeply personal — is exactly the kind of slow-burn storytelling that keeps audiences glued every week.

Add to that the brewing confrontation with the calculating Queen Dowager Yoon Irang (Gong Seung Yeon), and you have a show that delivers both heart-fluttering romance and genuine palace intrigue in equal measure.

Phantom Lawyer Also Holds Strong

Meanwhile, SBS’s Phantom Lawyer held steady with an average nationwide rating of 6.5 percent for the night — a solid performance for a show that has built a quietly devoted fanbase around Yoo Yeon Seok’s ghost-seeing lawyer. Friday nights in K-drama are clearly thriving right now.
