IPL 2025 – Zaheer Khan : In a significant development ahead of the IPL 2025 season, former Indian pace legend Zaheer Khan has joined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as a mentor and bowling coach. This move marks Zaheer’s return to the IPL, after his successful stint with Mumbai Indians, and is seen as a strategic effort by LSG to bolster their chances in the upcoming season.

Let’s have a look into more details: ISL 2024-25

Zaheer Khan, known for his deadly swing and cricketing acumen, brings a wealth of experience to the LSG camp. With a staggering 610 international wickets to his name, the 45-year-old is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the team’s bowling unit. Zaheer’s appointment fills the mentorship void left by Gautam Gambhir, who departed LSG to join Kolkata Knight Riders and subsequently took on the role of head coach for the Indian national team.

During his IPL career, Zaheer was a force to be reckoned with, representing franchises like Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). He featured in 100 IPL matches, claiming 102 wickets with an economy rate of 7.58. His return to the IPL as a mentor is expected to inject fresh energy into LSG’s strategy and performance.

Strategic Vision for LSG’s Future

At a press conference held in Kolkata, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka expressed his excitement about Zaheer’s inclusion in the team. “LSG, in their short stint, has reached the playoffs twice in three seasons. With Zaheer on board, we aim to take the team to the next level,” Goenka stated.

Zaheer himself shared his enthusiasm, stating, “I will make sure that the process required to take LSG to the next level is in place. The next season is going to be a special one.”

Filling the Bowling Coach Role

Zaheer’s dual role as a mentor and bowling coach comes at a crucial time for LSG, especially after the departure of former bowling coach Morne Morkel, who left to join the Indian men’s national side. With a promising lineup of bowlers like Mohsin Khan, Mayank Yadav, and Yash Thakur, Zaheer’s guidance is expected to be instrumental in honing their skills and elevating their game.

Impact on the IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Zaheer’s return also coincides with the IPL 2025 mega auction, where his insights and experience will be invaluable. His understanding of player dynamics and the tactical aspects of the game will be crucial in helping LSG build a strong squad capable of competing at the highest level.

With Zaheer Khan’s appointment, the Lucknow Super Giants are making a clear statement of intent ahead of IPL 2025. The team, which finished seventh last season, is now poised for a resurgence with a revamped support staff that includes head coach Justin Langer, and assistant coaches Lance Klusener and Adam Voges. As Zaheer joins the team, LSG fans can look forward to an exciting and competitive season, with hopes of seeing their team emerge as a formidable force in the IPL.
