The iPhone 17e only just launched — and already we’re looking ahead at what the iPhone 19e might bring in 2028. According to a report from ZDNet Korea, the iPhone 19e could finally receive an LTPO OLED display — the same display technology used in the premium iPhone 17 lineup — bringing ProMotion variable refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz to Apple’s most affordable iPhone. It’s a meaningful upgrade, if it happens.

Why This Would Be a Big Deal
The iPhone 17e’s biggest compromise is its 60Hz display — it is still using the same 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel with no ProMotion support. That’s been the single most common complaint about Apple’s budget iPhone line for years. ProMotion technology has only been present in LTPO OLED panels, which Apple has so far reserved for its more expensive models.

The reason for the potential change is interesting. Apple is reportedly researching LTPO+ technology for future premium iPhones — and if the premium lineup moves to LTPO+, Apple may filter down standard LTPO OLED to the iPhone 19e, maintaining differentiation between tiers. That said, if Apple faces production challenges with LTPO+, the iPhone 19e may still ship with the same panel as the iPhone 17e and iPhone 18e. This is rated at 50% plausible — promising, but not confirmed. Check out our full iPhone buying guide on Technosports to decide what makes sense for you right now.
