India vs England 2nd T20I: Tilak Varma’s Heroics Seal a Victory

Cricket fever soared at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium as India edged out England by two wickets in the India vs England 2nd T20I of the series. Chasing 166, the hosts stumbled along the way but rode on a scintillating knock from young Tilak Varma to reach 166/8 in 19.2 overs. Here’s a detailed look at how this nail-biting encounter unfolded.

India vs England 2nd T20I First Innings: England Post 165 for 9

After being asked to bat first, England got off to an energetic start thanks to Jos Buttler, who smashed 45 runs off 30 deliveries. Brydon Carse added a crucial late-innings cameo of 31 off 17, propelling England to a respectable total of 165/9.

Despite the initial flourish, other English batters struggled against India’s bowling attack, led by Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy, who both bagged two wickets each. This mix of strong starts and middle-order stumbles kept the contest finely balanced.

The Chase: Tilak Varma to the Rescue

India’s pursuit of 166 looked straightforward on paper but soon became complicated as wickets fell at regular intervals. Indian openers and the middle order, aside from notable contributions from Washington Sundar (26 off 19), couldn’t find enough momentum to comfortably seal the chase.

The turning point, however, was Tilak Varma’s masterclass under pressure. The southpaw steadied the ship and compiled an unbeaten knock of 72 runs off 55 balls, peppered with 4 boundaries and 5 stunning sixes. Each hit underlined Tilak’s composure and game awareness, ultimately guiding India across the line with four balls to spare.
