Humint on Netflix: The Korean Spy Thriller That K-Drama Fans Didn’t See Coming — Release Date, Cast & Plot

Just when you thought your March watchlist was sorted, Netflix swoops in with a last-minute bombshell. Humint, the high-octane South Korean espionage action film directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ryoo Seung-wan, is heading to Netflix globally on March 31, 2026 — and honestly, it couldn’t have landed at a better time.

Humint Netflix: Overview

What Does “Humint” Mean?

The title is drawn directly from real-world intelligence terminology. HUMINT stands for Human Intelligence — meaning information gathered from human sources rather than electronic surveillance. It’s a fitting name for a film that revolves entirely around people using, manipulating, and betraying each other in the shadows of international espionage.

What Is the Film About?

Set in Vladivostok, Russia, Humint follows South Korean NIS manager Zo as he tracks an international crime syndicate operating near the border. His path collides with Park Geon, a North Korean State Security official investigating a security breach from his own side. Caught in the middle of this intelligence war is Chae Seon-hwa — a worker at a North Korean restaurant — whom both sides attempt to recruit as a human intelligence source, placing her in extraordinary danger.

This is also the final chapter in director Ryoo Seung-wan’s unofficial “Overseas Location” trilogy, which includes The Berlin File (2013) and Escape from Mogadishu (2021). If you’ve seen either of those, you already know what to expect: slick action, moral complexity, and exceptional craft.

Cast Highlights

The film reunites director Ryoo with stars Zo In-sung (Moving, Escape from Mogadishu) and Park Jeong-min (Hellbound, Time to Hunt) — a pairing that previously worked together in his 2023 hit Smugglers. The ensemble also features Park Hae-joon (The World of the Married) as the North Korean consul general and Shin Se-kyung (Run On) as Chae Seon-hwa, the woman at the centre of the intelligence storm.

For fans of Korean cinema, this cast list alone is worth clearing your schedule for this coming Tuesday evening. And if you want to catch up on more K-content and OTT release schedules, TechnoSports’ Korean Entertainment section has you covered.
